Don't use sniper rifles to snipe.

Don't use the .308 rifles. Not unless it's a roleplaying thing...you just want your toon to use them.

The .45 combat rifle makes a better weapon for sniping because of fire rate.

Example:

Right now at my level with my talents a .308 sniper rifle does 92 damage, but it has a fire rate of 3...it is bolt action. The shot is manually loaded.

My combat sniper rifle does 78 damage, but because it is semi-automatic and I can put 3 .45's at 78 damage apiece into the target in the same time I can put 1 92 .308 into the target.

I used the Overseer Rifle to snipe, was extremely effective. More so after modifying the weapon to its fullest with exception to the ammo type.

i mostly agree. I actually use a sniper modified laser rifle for long distance sniping and recon, it only gets 9 shots per "mag" but it does over 100 damage (with rifle perks, etc). (its also the special laser rifle Righteous Authority) usually one shot one kill with that one. I use my combat rifle to snipe at medium range (short scope) or when I have been detected.

the bolt action stuff is just way too slow on the fire rate and has too much recoil. my combat rifle and laser rifle have almost no recoil at all (after mods of course).

Try it with a fully modded assault rifle. No recoil, more damage than a combat rifle and an 80 round magazine. I have yet to fine an "exploding" anything but I was lucky enough to find a "2-shot assault rifle'. That thing is nuts.

Don't use sniper rifles to snipe? I reached level 50+ using sniper rifle from the very beginning on survival. With exploding bullets and x5.3 damage multiplier most enemies die with one shot, usually headshot.

Here's the thing: with the right perk selection you can 1-shot (or at the most "2-shot") kill most enemies sniping with a pipe pistol. What it comes down to for me is how much recoil a weapon has and whether or not the weapon is semi-auto. Sure a sniper rifle does more damage per shot but that really doesn't matter when my Rifleman, Sneak, Sandman and Bloody Mess Perks are maxxed out. What matters is the inconvenience of a bolt action rifle when I need a follow up shot because the enemy was actually a legendary super mutant instead of a normal one and he just fully healed after that first shot almost killed him because I didn't bother lining up a head shot. But for most enemies a tap from a 2-shot weapon, head shot or not, kills 90% of the enemies I encounter. Even Swan was sniped with 2 head shots before he even stood up all the way.

learn to aim and firerate is nonerelevant. the .308 hunting rifle with a .5 caliber lock onehitkills all with perks, u only need higher firerate when u not able to aim and miss a lot. and for the misses eneyms that come near u take a noneauto stormrifle with u that isnt trimmed for scopes...

Same here, I switch to The Deliverer once I enter close quarters.
