You can retrieve it with a console code.
If you still want to take a chance, there are a couple of settlements that come with a curio cabinet style display case. I think the Castle has one as well as the Nascant (??, the settlement just NE from Libertalia) house.

While not exactly a display case / stand, the mod OCDecorator will let you place your models as though they were normal build mode objects, and they won't be able to be knocked over / down / fall through the world / etc.
So you can actually display them w/out worry. : )
No it hasn't, and I don't think it's a bug. If you look through the quest notes, the history behind the grasshopper is that it was stoled many times before and always returned. Go back to the top of Faneuil Hall (yes, you'll have to muller your way through some Supermutants with rocket launchers briefly, again) and I'll bet you that it's right there on top of the pole where you originally found it. And there's a good chance when you put it back in the display case that it'll again mysteriously hop off back to Faneuil Hall.
