Brotherhood of steel keep attacking important quest npc? [spoilers]

I'm trying to side with the brotherhood overall, but i wanted to do a few missions for the institute first. well, im trying to do one of their quests, but every time I go there, the main quest NPC is getting attacked by a Vertibird. I've tried waiting, and I've tried talking to him anyways. neither seem to work. What do I do in this situation? Thanks!

Edit: Just fixed the issue! For anyone who views this thread in the future, you just have to watch the fight long enough for the Vertibird to land on the ground. Once it does that, let the NPC kill the brotherhood of steel members. You can make the fight shorter by stealing the fusion core from their power armor. If you're on pc you can just open up the console with the ~ key and type "kill" on both the BOS soldiers.

You stand back and watch him kill all the BOS guys - he's essential so he cant die.
Just dont do anything or go near it or you risk angering the BOS

(checking google to see if there is more you can do lol brb - edit - people have said just grab some popcorn and enjoy the show - it can take awhile though)

happened to me and i was like wtf, waited like 10 minutes, went afk grabbed some food and watched some tv and it was still happening. Then about another 10 mins later idk what happened but the power armored soldier didnt die but he left or something or lost visual of the courser npc. I talked to him quickly and ran off with him.

Doesn't happen with my followers, BOS all the way, even got them in Diamond City with no issues.

I had the same issue (had danse with me), I just managed to talk with him before he ran off and then I went and killed the raiders while I waited...

Just fixed the issue! For anyone who views this thread in the future, you just have to watch the fight long enough for the Vertibird to land on the ground. Once it does that, let the NPC kill the brotherhood of steel members. You can make the fight shorter by stealing the fusion core from their power armor.

you can also press ~ key then type the kill command(kill), this should just end the fight and not cause them to hate you.

I had this issue when I had to take out a settlement with an important NPC. The BOS were there and kept attacking him. I was lucky in that I knew what the mission was so made a start on clearing out the settlement and eventually the NPC came onto the scene having either moved far enough from the BOS to stop them attacking him or he had taken them out. Either way, as others have said, just grab some popcorn and wait, though I know it's annoying.
