Any info on Gene?

Gene the dog salesman. Is he essential/protected? I have never met him before and I have gone all the way through the main questline. Is he dead? Can he die? Is there a way to find out?

I know he can die by your hand for sure, since a friend of mine killed him (he got annoyed when he wouldn't sell the dog, lol).

Then he would be protected. If an NPC attacks him he won't die, but you can still kill him.

My four hundred hours and I only recently met him. Just bad luck I'm sure.

I had one playthrough where I ended up with six dogs I bought from him, and I kept running into him.

My last playthrough I did not run across him at all.

I just hope I didnt miss his spawn, and he was killed by the wildlife or something.

yah. I only saw him (at college center, near the BoS outpost) after about 500 hrs. As I recall he rejected my offer, but there was some path thru the dialogue where I talked him into it. Ended up with "The Junkyard Dog"

I killed his dog once by accident. It was a bit in the distance and I though it might attack me. Did not see him until he cursed me out. That was the second time i saw him. Have not seen him since.
