Nope there are pretty decent weapons for taking out 90% of baddies, only trouble is with SM warlords, but my explosive minigun makes short work of them.

Dont expect a single gun to work for all situations and enemies.

Not at all, They are my weapons of choice since I use Rifleman perk all the time

I miss the Jury Rig perk from that game, but since weapons/armor (not talking power armor) don't have to be repaired I guess its not needed anymore

The combat shotgun pretty much eliminates any reason to take the double-barrel shotgun. It's also one of the few weapons where not using a suppressor seems reasonable even if you're full Mr. Sandman, because the range penalty really hurts when the range is already pretty bad.

Combat rifle (which I'd normally prefer in .308) versus assault rifle (always 5.56) is more interesting, perhaps. 5.56mm ammunition is common in turrets, but they only provide small quantities.

waiting for millinia(sorry if i spelled that wrong) and huffy to make their weapons mods and of course a caliberx mod.

oh and a m1911.

The Railway rifle is rock solid for both effectiveness and comical value. The Cryo gun with max Big Gun skills will kill super mutant warlords in a few hits. The printed damage must be bugged because between that and the ship cannon, you'll 1-2 shot everything in the game with the right perks.

I get the impression that in the lore, there really wasn't an M1911 (or at least it wasn't nearly as influential) and the 'standard' sidearm was instead the 10mm. What screws around with that theory is that you'd expect the standard SMG to use the same 10mm pistol rounds as well -- and that has existed in earlier FO games -- and instead we get what appears to be a .45 Thompson. So, whatevs. :/

NV did have the .45 Auto pistol, but only in NV and even then, only via DLC.

(For that matter, where's the Guass pistol from FO2? *sigh*)

I miss the weapon variety that was in FONV, but the combat rifle and combat shotgun are okay weapons to me.

I don't use them I like tech and melee.

I mainly use shotgun against super mutants or larger enemies like the death claw or queen mirelurk as it has additional +25 pts bleed damage even works against turrets & robots. My combat rifle has +50% damage bonus to humans so no not sick at all. Both supressed using sneak, ninja, sandman, lone wanderer, rifleman & penetrator perks.

I have the deliverer which, with the right perks attached, one shots super mutants... But I miss shotgun surgeon..

My combat shotgun is my mainstay weapon. Put it in semi auto configuration with a long barrel and a 32 round drum mag and you can put down any threat in the game by simply standing your ground and unloading on the target.

suppresed 10mm pistol + dot sight + Pistol damage perk is the best weapon for starting off.
