Radiation damage from being indoors.
I hate it when im in my shelter and notice a rad strom coming, I think it would be much better if youŕe in a closed space you shouldnt take no radiation damage since its the weather, not the soil that damages you. If i have a roof on my top i should be safe from it. I could just enjoy my cup of tea under a warm blanket while daydreaming about torturing the minutemen and let the storm pass by.

Isolation from radiation simply doesn't work by a concrete/wood/metal shack or building honestly. the buildings in city apparently works due to isolations mostly but it's more harder to do so when outside (including buildings accesible on outside)

To actually isolate from radiation you need a damn fallout shelther. Under ground..

What I think is funny, is the Pulowski Preservation Shelters don't protect you from rads during radstorms. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or an intentional joke. They DO ironically protect against explosions, so you are immune to a fatman while inside.

Best thing to do if you want to prevent radiation from a storm is fasttravel to a different location. I think "sleep" on a bed may also prevent radiation, not sure about that one though.

Did your ancestors have any part in the design of The Titanic by any chance?

Also, zone loading works, I.E. going into a bulding or Good Neighbor. Otherwise the game mechanics recognize you as "outside."

Even waiting on a chair works. I would have preferred some STALKER COP-like experience...

If only this game had some of them fallout shelters

you guys got me all wrong, i do know how to get to safety but i dont want to fast travel or wait or get to a building, i hate the loading screen when entering a building. it takes away the immersion. I want a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shaft underground (no loading screen).
ubik Jan 10, 2016 @ 5:44pm
Leaded power armor should do the job

Or, a lead-insulated building, if there is such a thing.

Look around the wasteland. Does it seem like those houses were immune to radiation? The damage indoors is just logic.
ubik Jan 10, 2016 @ 5:56pm
I think being inside the walls of a typical bank vault should be enough to mitigate, if it only takes 4 ft of packed dirt to insulate a fallout shelter.

Assuming the radiation in the game is gamma radiation then I don't think the wooden shack you're standing in would have any affect in it. Gamma radiation can easily pass through many meters of concrete and would require some dense material such as lead to stop it. Even with lead, you'd have to have a fairly thick chunck of it to stop the radiation from getting through. Definitly not something you could wear. The fact that there's holes in most of the buildings in the game doesn't help much either...

Takes away immersion that you're absorbing radiation in buildings that aren't shielded for it

ok

Actually, you don't have to be underground to be safe from radiation. Just build a concrete shelter with a door. You don't even need air conditioning since your characters don't need to breathe and can't feel temperature.
Radstorms only affect you when you are in outside zones, such as diamond city or a settlement. This means that if you enter a cave or a building in diamond city you will be completely safe.

Ignoring the necro, it depends what type of radiation the storm gives off. Alpha particles are blocked by paper, beta particles are a bit stronger, but still can be blocked fairly easily, gamma rays would require lots of lead.
