"Learning Curve" missions on the Prydwen
I just did my first " Learning Curve"mission for Proctor Quinlan. I took the scribe out and brought him back. When I get back to Quinlan, the only options I get are, that the scribe is dead. I looked on the wiki and it seems to say that the scribe being killed on all missions is the normal outcome. Is this correct? The wiki says you can just snipe the scribe from the Prydwen, go back to Quinlan and tell him the companion is dead and collect a reward. What the fudge? Is there any point or major achievement to the Learning Curve missions?

They're repeatable, so they can be used to XP farm, which is usually the case.

the scribe tends to die when you fast travel to the prydwen. I found that onyl way to solve this is to take a vertibird singal grenade flight directly to the prydwen and the scribe will still be alive. (no idea why this happens as it just started doing this a few days ago.

I have done loads of those missions (I want to reach level 100 in my second playthrough as I only got to 89 the first time).

The scribe never dies, just keep him/her alive, that is the objective. Take them to the computer and then fast travel back to the Prydwen.

Never had a problem.

Just to add: if you start doing these missions early on you may run into some hard to beat enemies. Ask him for the mission location. Reload, travel there, kill the enemies, fast travel back, pick him up, go to the location again and take him to the computer without any problems. I have never had to do that but I read here that this is a safe way to keep him alive.

You are completly missing the point.

We are not having trouble keeping the scribe alive or getting him to the data terminal, what happens is when you fast travel away from the mission area the scribe dies, POOF gone. so the only way to keep him alive through the fast travel process is to use a vertibird.

Exactly, I took him to the terminal, escorted him back, stopped at the vertibird under the Prydwen, traveled to the Prydwen, went to see Quinlan and the only options I get are ... the scribe is dead. So, my question is, what's the point of doing these mission, other than farming points, if you don't get a reward for bringing him back alive. By the way, I almost never fast travel. Lizard, when you take him back by calling in a vertibird, do you get any other options from Quinlan besides, yeah the morons dead, can I have another mission, sir?

I did that mission twice and didn't run into the issue you are having. I escorted him to the computer, let him do this thing until done, left with him, then fast travelled to the prydwen and the mission was completed successfully.

yes i can complete the mission normally as if the guy is alive.

Yes, I also get a mission completed graphic, too. I'm just asking, is there an option where you go back to Quinlan and tell him the scribe is safe and here's your info. It seems pointless to me to escort the scribe to and from the objective if he's just going to end up dead. Just do as the wiki says and shoot him in the head and go tell Quinlan ... yup, the dummie's dead, gimme my reward.

There is some kind of glitch going on. The wiki, as usual, is wrong. I've done it several times and kept the Scribe alive each time. It isn't that hard, but then my character is basically Iron Man with a fully decked out focused auto-laser rifle that packs double critical damage and I named it Ad Victorium. Perhaps you need to name a weapon after VICTORY, soldier. ;P

From the current wiki ...

Quick walkthroughEdit
1. Accept a patrol from Proctor Quinlan.
2. Go to the airport to get the scribe companion.
3. Go to the target area and bring the scribe to the marked terminal, or just murder him immediately (the outcome is the same).
4. Return to Quinlan in the Prydwen.

... note the part about ... the outcome is the same.

I'm not saying that I can't keep the scribe alive, that's not the problem. I'm saying that no matter what I do, when I report to Quinlan, my only speech option to him, so far, is ... the scribe is dead. I'm going to try that flyng him back to the Prydwen to see if I get another speech option such as ... yeah, he's alive, here's your info. Thanks Lizard.

Thanks Lizard, that does work. When I went back to the Airport and took the Vertibird under the Prydwen back to the ship, I got those options about the scribe is dead. I had saved the game just before I got on the Vertibird. So, I turned and went a slight distance off the airport, popped a vertibird signalling flare, I was picked up along with dogmeat and the scribe, they both appeared on the deck with me and then I went to Quinlan and received my reward without the scribe is dead speech options coming up. So, apparently when you use the Vertibird under the Prydwen, the scribe sticks his head in the prop blades or something.
