Meh,
Like I said, I didn't bother doing any research into a real comparisons, since I think you are focusing on a specific thing that you have a personal issue with, or are trying very hard to force "controversy", just being a troll, or starting to question your own personal feelings based on a "conversation options" in a video game.
In real relationships, do you immediately ask someone, " Hey are you gay/bi,straight?" or do you do something a bit more discreet, such as "flirting"?
Not much of a discussion point really, since there are maybe 3-4 times you have the option to complete a one line "flirt" with your companions before you reach the final affinity level. that's a really strongly build relationship there for being a life-ling companion.
Are for "believe-ability"..... you do know you survived a 200 year deep freeze. Maybe in this Game reality people are as stuck as you are on different options of affection.
Most of those "hook ups" are sexual assaults.
You tell us.
My char isn't in prison.
They did not impact any other element of the game because they were shallow and tacked on, as the previous poster mentioned. Although the option to romance Danse was immersion-breaking for me, personally, I agree 100% that games like Fallout 4 are all about freedom and I would never think of petitioning to have those elements/options removed. If homosexuals were born that way, shouldn't the in-game option be established at the Create-A-Character screen?
That could be a possible reason yep.
Would the scientists not have took this side effect into consideration before even conducting experiments on live human subjects (by freezing them for long periods of time)?
Assuming the scientists experimented on mice for example first & then monitored their behaviour after being thawed out/woken from deep freeze sleep/suspended animation. If the results showed any possibility that an animal or humans sexual preference could change after cryogenic freezing do you think this experiment would continue to go on?
Would it be hidden from people or would it be explained as a possible side effect as a result of being frozen for a long period of time which could cause mental illness leading to the possibility of becomming gay?
That solution would probably be far too railroaded (pun unintentional) for a modern Bethesda game. It's not just a question of sexuality, but also sexual liberty. Being made to pre-determine aspects of a character's psyche would be far too restrictive. I don't imagine Bethesda expected many players to dislike having the option to initiate relationships, non-hetero or otherwise. A similar example would be having your immersion broken by being offered the choice to demand more caps for a job (morally dubious), because you feel like you're playing a distinguished, all-American war hero.
He normally wouldn't, but the option is there for you.
You make a good point. For example, players cannot choose to change gender mid-game but can change sexual preference. Shouldn't players be permitted to emasculate themselves? Why not?
The numbers on prison rape is around 20-25%. Rest is consensual. Inmates who have sex in prison usually consider themselves hetero, but "gay on the inside"... inside meaning prison.
Sex reassignment surgery probably isn't possible in the Wasteland (I've never used the Diamond City surgery centre, I might be wrong). On the other hand, I'm fairly certain male characters are able to wear female clothing, and vice versa. Usually in Bethesda games individual clothing items will come with a male and female version, which seems to have changed in this game. So yeah, a female character could emasculate herself by wearing men's clothing and having facial reconstruction surgery.
In any case, that's a little beside the point. Sexual preference is more susceptible to change than gender identity, and requires very little in the way of actual game mechanics beside a line or two of additional dialogue per romanceable character. Just as there's no dialogue or GUI option needed to change sexual identity, neither is there one needed to change gender identity. They're both fairly well-integrated into the game as mechanics, and a lot of intepretation for the reasoning is left open to the player. People's characters can be much more representative, at very little cost to Bethesda.
Did the same but later on realised that the backside of a set if X-01 PA looks the same regardless of gender :(
