Just another fun place to build up.
Ditto.
And as near as I can tell Spectacle Island is subject to the exact same enemy list that everywhere else is. I've been attacked there twice now; once was raiders, the other was Gunners.
The island has a huge build limit and a pretty impressive ceiling, so you could always build platforms up high with missile turrets and heavy lasers (pretty long range for these); the highest ground is not that far from the center of the island, so it's not like there's lots of ridges to block LOS.
I built a tower on the high ground, near the trailer and beacon, etc. It's five stories with balconies and loaded with heavy machine gun and laser turrets. They didn't go near the water purifiers on the beach.
The attack surprised me because I specifically didn't build a radio beacon to attract settlers. I chose the six people I wanted there to tend food and that is it. They don't make much food or water, no traders, caravans or even artillery defences. I thought that might keep them safe and let me use the island as a secret sanctuary...I was wrong. (Perhaps flying in and out on Vertibirds wasn't a smart way to keep a "secret"?)
So I added another defensive tower on a hill by that old house and threw up several more turrets around the old shacks.
The place is much too big to defend like a fortress, so I went with strategically located defensive installations that provide 360 degree coverage. Everything is centralized which means the enemy must cover the ground to harm my settlers. Adding towers at spawn points will slow them down at least.
I have yet to build anything else there or advertise for settlers so I can't say what the game will do with it then.
