Remove your Crosshair.
If you are experienced fps player then remove your crosshair. In any fps game this should be done. It really increases the immersion when you dont have some bright green thing on your screen. It also makes hip firing alot more difficult but satisying when u make contact. Doing this in every game is also a good way to develop your fps aiming skills. Try it out if u can handle it.

You mean those old school games where you only had to aim on the x axis and if there was something above or below you, it auto aimed on the y?

OMG LOL IKR11!!!??? So nooby to have a simple center point refrence..

I state this sarcasm as someone who plays with the crosshair off simply because It's not at all needed in non-combat circumstances.

You need the crosshair because unlike in real life, you don't have a perception of where the gun is pointing based on where you are holding the gun because you aren't holding the gun, the thing that is supposed to be a gun is just a visual icon on the screen to represent that what gun you have equipped but this doesn't give you an accurate representation of where the bullet is going to go because it is just an indicator of the gun have equipped.

I feel like the OPer is one of those holier than thou people I hate so much.
Agree, thats the first thing that I do, along with subtitles. Also turn off the compass once you get familiar enough with the game... now you are in there.

I don't has a bright green cursor on my screen! No mine's the Spider Ink purple and I love it

OP says crosshair breaks immersion

Willing to bet OP has in game music playing and doesn't consider it breaking immersion having an invisible orchestra playing incidental and battle music 24/7

At first I had the crosshair turned off.
However, after I reached the point in my build where I could effectively abuse the hell out of Power Armor, I found myself playing a lot more in third person (cuz I like seeing what a badass I look like and such :p).
I did disable the compass, too, but it seems to be always on with PA, unless it's a different .ini setting I missed.
I hate both to be frank. The crosshair is huge and distracting, especially with the visual cues when you highlight stuff, and the compass is in the worst possible spot on-screen. I can't wait for an iHUD style mod for 4.

Also, I agree with general sentiments of the OP, but maybe not the wording.
Personally I favor the immersion of a big, empty screen with just my dude's hands and gun in view. Especially in very atmospheric shooters like Metro and STALKER.

Lol i respect all feedback. I actually listen to radio. Fallout has intorduced me to alot of old awesome bands that i never knew about. The best part is all the songs they chose are all in the nuke paranoia era and cold war and fit the setting perfectly. Id say lsitening to daimond city radio for sure adds to the atmosphere and immersion. Nothing better than blowing heads off while listening to Atom Bomb Baby or The Wanderer.

I never use a crosshair if I have the option. Even tf2 l4d cs no crosshair for me. You know you're OG when you can beat realism expert campaign with no crosshair enabled. That's how I play :) And in old school games no crosshair is actually the default and enabling it is a noob luxury.
You are hardcore, mad respect. Any game where u can use iron sites or scopes i remove the crosshairs. But they are sort of essential in CS or any competative shooter that doesnt invovle aiming down sites. Unless you are just a sniper.

Actually if you have played alot of fps games over the years you get a good feel for where the true "center" of your screen is. So you can effectively "noscope/hipfire" in most games when you have that center visualized.

I play pretty hardcore with no power armor and mostly sneak till ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan. When it does occur, fps becomes extremely tactical in fallout. similar to an rpg. I cannot think of another game where i have to pause in the middle of combat to strategically take aid or switch weapons to something more effective depedning on the threat. Its honestly extremely tactical in an rpg sense and not some generic shooter. each situation is different, always pending different threats. Thats just my stoned 2 cenets. And ye im kind of an Elitist ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but i could give a ♥♥♥♥ less what u think XD ha jk
