If you read the "lore" behind it, you notice that it's just an easter egg.
The weapon you find is a legendary, but it's not the base weapon (machete) that makes it legendary but the mod. So you can remove it and plug it into an actually legendary machete. But as i said, machetes are pretty poor to begin with just like the "legendary" effect of the Kremvh mod.
My rating of melee weapons (Survival Mode) :
1. Rockville Slugger (or any VATS enhanced) - at least 8 attacks in VATS, room clearer with Blitz
2. Combat Knife (any) - also 8 attacks but only half the damage, best attack speed to quickly and silently dispatch guards with or without VATS
3. Super Sledge (any) - sneak attack does something like 3000 damage unbuffed, but enemies seem to get alerted by the attack noise and it's overkill against normal enemies even without stealth
That is assuming you play melee combined with stealth and VATS, as the 10x modifier is simply the highest damage you can get in Fo4 and Blitz is just amazing.
Obviously you'll need to be Blacksmith as well, since the mods for Slugger and Super Sledges practically don't exist as drops.
Instigating Super Sledge and Combat Knife could also be handy for certain legendary enemies where your regular openener doesn't instantly kill them, like Legendary Siegebreaker Sentry Bot. Of course there are still critical hits to deal with those.
If you first start off on the game, you don't even KNOW about the "best" melee weapon, or where to get it.
There are so many different ways to branch off into this game world, it all depends on how you go about things, and that kinda makes the "best" perks pretty situational anyway, at least when it comes to "weapon upgrade" perks.
Yeah i'm still using that, it's just a "Wounding" combat knife that comes with the stealth blade upgrade ready to use. Since it still does like 890 damage with Ninja rank 3, the 25 bleed damage are irrelevant.
Decent legendary melee weapons are extremely rare as random drops.
2 Hand weapons like the baseball bat, super sledge are really the only ones to use to do any kind of damage, especially against multiple foes.
I am currently using a legendary power fist I found though, that increases damage done on the target with consecutive hits.
Other than that, so far the melee can be quite boring, as there isn't a lot of cool weapons to use.
I would have expected in a game like Fallout 4 to have provided some creative, funny and innovative weapons, that can also be crafted, such as;
signpost mace
tree trunk club
airplane propeller blade/sword
You know, innovative and interesting stuff that you'd find in the world and put it together.
Instead we get boring and badly made amateur sword models that are re-used with different names on it.
I still like Fallout 4 as it is, but as a member of a series, no.. its a joke now.
If it was fluent and intuitive like in "Shadow of Mordor" i would probably consider using it instead of guns.
Agree that Sneak+Blitz gameplay can quickly get way too easy, as long as you don't get detected.
