So sick of Strong...
Trying to max out all the Companions for their perks, but Strong is just ridiculous. What with him hating lockpickings, powered armor, talking, and the smiles on little babies' faces (probably), you really can't bring him for 'general' questing...

So, from what I can read, he liked killing innocents (which I won't do, since it seems likely to screw things up, and I just don't have that many innocents available anyway), eating corpses (which requires a special perk, and way more Endurance than I have) and threatening people (which there are way too few opportunities to do)...

However, the wiki ALSO says that he likes STEALING, which should make him just as easy and simple to max out as MacReady, without having to break for personal quests inbetween! Only, I tried stealing some stuff with him standing right next to me, and he didn't seem to care. On the other hand, I also found some threats that said he was bugged and simply didn't show the 'Strong liked that' line like he's supposed to. And on the THIRD hand, I ALSO found a thread mentioning a bug that could occur to Currie and Strong alike, causing them to lose the ability to gain or lose approval by any means...

Oh, and a bunch of other threads claimed that he gained affinity just from killing stuff together with you, again, without actually saying so.

So... does anyone know if stealing actually does/is supposed to improve Strong's affinity? And whether he really never says when he likes what you do? And whether fighting alongside him really DOES award some kind of invisible affinity-boosts, or you have to do something specific while fighting with him?

Bleh. The one question I DON'T need answered is whether his perk is worth the trouble, 'cuz it's obviously useless. If only I wasn't such an utter completionist... :UnhappyMask:

I consider that a last resort. Using it whenever things don't go your way all too quickly becomes a habit, which sucks a lot of the fun out of the game...

Besides, if he's actually capital-B bugged, and unable to gain Affinity AT ALL? Then the console-command won't help, since you still need to do ONE actually liked action to trigger the conversations.

Strong just want milk of human kindness ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Player.addperk 84290. I am not really a fan of companions in this game, I keep dogmeat around as a walking storage and usually have him wait somewhere when I engage in combat. So yeah I got no issue just giving myself their perks, maxing out your relationship with them is tedious in my opinion, dosen't add anything but frustration with the constant blocking and getting in the way of my shots.

Gained his perk three times now. Never tried stealing with him around but I think sometimes it doesn't show him liking things that he DOES like. I stick to this rule of thumb when getting him to like you. Don't pick locks while hes with you just makes the process longer I think. And make sure to give him stuff to carry he loves that ( it wont show it though) and he loves it when you kill humans and dam near anything else. Kill and share with him and Don't Pick Locks worked every time for me.

mmh I thought killing random raiders would be enough? Strong is more for an evil/freak character imo. If you have Cannibalism perk it should be easy to get his affinity up tho. But it's just unfitting for a pre-war person (imo).

from the wiki:
'Conversely, repeatedly doing Preston's Radiant quests to help settlements in need by choosing a positive dialog option and taking the "Rambo" approach clearing locations while avoiding picking locks at all costs, and only looting corpses can get him to admire and finally idolize the player. If sent to a location with a lot of locked doors, opening console, clicking locked object and typing "unlock" (w/o quotations) can bypass him constantly disliking lockpicking .'

It seems sir psycho is right

I'm still on my first play through and like you I was desperately trying to max my companions disposition in order to unlock their perks. I managed to get thee; Codsworth, Piper and Deacon. For whatever reason I ended up losing as much as gaining dispo with Currie and since I've been avoiding settlement stuff I haven't been able to max Prescott. The main thing though is that having gotten fed up with annoying chatter, blocked paths and doorways and followers planting their behinds right in front of my perfectly lined up sniper shot I went "all in" on solo adventuring. And I haven't been happier. I personally don't think the companion perks are worth all the hoops you need to jump through in order to unlock them And the best thing is that the Lone Wanderer perk works with Dogmeat who is by far the least annoying companion I've traveled with once I learned to block out his sickly whining every time he got hit. I'm not sure if this is a direction you want to take and believe me I get why you want to unlock those perks (I'm sort of a "completionist" too) but I only make this suggestion to help save your sanity.

Okay, quick question... I wanted to use the console's 'check affinity' command to find out whether various things actually boosted Strong's affinity, but... I can't get it to work! According to another thread, it's "getav CV_affinity", but when I select a companion (and not just Strong) and use that, I just get "Item 'CV_affinity' not found for parameter Actor Value"...

he dosen't gain affinity when killing things of giving him stuff, you can check this with getav CA_affinity
he gains affinity overtime like all companions, there is an affinity gain every 5mins or so similar to a like gain
his perk is only useful if you use melee or unarmed

make sure you select the companion and not some other object, its getav CA_affinity

Ah! CA, not CV... guess the guy in the other thread made a typo. >.<

There is a way to farm affinity with Strong. If you find the Art random encounter, kill one of them (I chose the synth). You should continually see the message 'Strong likes that'.
BlackDragon Dec 31, 2015 @ 5:24am
Well, the first getav_CA affinity results are in... Strong does NOT, in fact, like you stealing things, despite what the wiki says. Actually, he DISLIKES it ever-so-slightly. When stealing a random piece of junk, his affinity dropped from 71 to 70...

Second, killing a random citizen in Diamond City: No effect.
