Father is NOT the real shaun! !!! SPOILERS !!!
hey guys, i came across something more mindblowing then the initial "my son is 70 years old now" thing. when youre in kelloggs memories, in the last scene where he and shaun are sitting in his shack, waiting for the instituteagent to pick him up and bring him into the institute, there is the radio playing in the background. it was playing too in one of the other scenes when you saw kellogg and his mom. then the DJ spoke of the new californian republic.but now as kellog sits there with shaun. you can hear the normal diamond city DJ talking about piper... and the mayor told you kellogg lived with a little boy in the city not long ago wich in combination means that this scene with the 10 year old shaun cant be happened 60 years ago. so... think about it. why would kellogg babysit the 10 year old synth shaun? no this scene must have been the real one. that 10 year old shaun must be the real one. and yes you get a ton of info about kellogg in the institute, that kellogg was preserved to become older than normal... i dont belive that. IT COULD BE, that the radio DJ talking about piper is a bug. and i cant tell where the real shaun now is. the 10 year old shaun that you get to see in the institute IS a synth. and if you destroy the institute you get that synth shaun as some sort of companion.

I know Father is not trust worthy but you read it too much...

On one hand, even Kellog said that 10 year old Shaun is a misguide, and there are enough imformation in institue terminals that can anwser all of your question, unless you think that's just to misslead you too...

On the other hand, Bethesda write the story, so what they said, are lore, what we said, are fan fiction at most...

Kellogs memories are of the fake synth shaun. They sent it out to test drive it, or whatever you call such things. Thats why it had to go back in his memories.

It's the synth shawn in the memory, father had the whole thing set up to lure you to the institute. Why would they pick someone uncontaminated by high levels of radiation, for pure DNA, then keep them outside, hmm?

I wouldn't rely on bethesda to stay true to the lore... they seem happy to change it to suit whatever crap they want to do, like the T-60s.

Kellogg was made a synth.
The boy being babysitted by kellogg in the memory thing could be Shaun when he was actually 10. Dont forget that previous director to Shaun (Father) had kinda the same adgenda...(get a pure specimin, model all further synths from pure specimins DNA, improve on said synths).
This is why Kelogg hasnt aged, because he is synth now.
Also while Father (shaun) is still director, he states to Soul Survivor that he knew He/She was in vault 111 all along and never rescued (you) out of their earlier for whatever reason (cant remember), but the reason he didnt rescue you seemed very full of BS to me but when I did it I went along with the notion.
Kellogg was ordered to babysit shaun, it was his job, and wether the 10 year old boy was the real Shaun or a synth, I really dont think Kellogg knew either, he was just following orders for whatever sick reason etc lol

Think back to the conversation with Shaun on the rooftop of the CIT building. Shaun explaines that he relesed you as the backup DNA in an experiment and that you had now passed the test.
He then invites you to a meeting where he informs everyone that he is dying and appoints you as his sucessor.
I think he had set a path that would lead you to him if you passed certain test that would finally lead you to the Institute an prove you had what it takes to replace him and have a DNA link to the Institute.
In each faction he placed a synth so that he had an oportunity to present you with situations and evaluate the results.

Young Shaun,
(who was a dissapointment to Shaun in his reaction to you when you found him at the institute.)

If you want to go that deep into the story line it's fun to figure out the other synths he sent along the way that could lead you to him. I've read from others that Synths wont have an inventory could be one clue.

Interesting topic. I am looking forward to other repies and theories.

Kellog even say that this boy is the old man's pet project.

Kellogg is a synth, Father is not your son.
The amount of BS here is legendary lol.

that's exactly what I mean, they will do what ever they want to the lore as long as fallout is still in their hand, what we think, dont matter at all, whether they care about our opine, is another story...

I worked it out from the first institute play through father uses you maternal bond/love for your child to get you to do what the institute needs done he also knows he is dying so would surely want to spend more time with his father instead of keep sending him out on missions

Mama Murphy is not a synth, but Sturges is.

I suspect that the writers intended this to be somewhat vague, but the process of editing the made parts of the story too concrete so we lost the mystery. Oh well.

Fathers personal terminal even spells it out as such.

You nailed it. I think it was meant to be ambiguous if the Sole Survivor and Father were synths or not, and that got lost in the writing process somewhere.
