Any way to check the exact approval of a companion?
Like, maybe with a console-command, or something? I've been adventuring with Nick Valentine for what seems like forever, taking every opportunity to earn his approval and avoiding anything that he disapproves of... I hit 'Admires' ages ago, got a speech from him, and... since then, nothing. No more speeches, no 'Idolizes' that I've noticed, no perk. I'm worried it got bugged - god knows there's enough of THOSE around - but I can't figure out how to tell for sure.

In console mode, select them and to check his affinity (getav CA_affinity) and to change it is setav CA_affinity <number>

There are stages that are events with companions, some lead to quests like curie becoming human cannot allow affinity to go above 499, Macready will not advance past 749 till you get him the serum ect. A companion will only have that "conversation, after advancing past those events, only they require a cell change to update. Ever notice they always want to talk when you enter a building full of enemies ect? Events happen at 500, 750 and 1000

I think you chose a weird companion to befriend. He is a synth; and as being one, his loyalties might get tested towards the later stages of the game. No spoiler; I haven't seen it, just a gut instinct. Btw, why would you try to max out your friendship with it anyways?

Shooo, you synth hater! I liked Nick (before I went for complete solo) and I had no problems maxing his approval and getting and doing his quest.

Have you tried talking to him yourself?

Yes, I've tried talking to him, repeatedly, as well as asking him about our relationship (which always strikes me as... strangely suggestive, especially when talking to someone who can't be romanced) with no result. As for why... well, I'm a bit of a packrat, and I just want to collect all the companion-perks, even the relatively useless ones like 'Closer to Metal'. And that means getting everyone's approval to max!

Once I'm done with Nick, I'll be picking up Strong. THAT promises to be a challenge...

Anyway, I'll try that console-command.

Ow I know it, it's a quest with nick about his past. You can find it in a police station near Bunker Hill I thought. After that you can max Nick

Ah, damn! It's even in the wiki! How did I not SEE that?!? Guess I was just so used to companions popping up their personal quest when I got friendly enough with them, I hadn't considered this. He didn't give me the quest, because I haven't gotten around to finishing Dangerous Minds!
