Arming Synths (spoilers)

I am doing the quest "Underground Undercover" and have the optional quest to provide weapons for the synth rebellion. Does anybody know how this works?
1) Can I get the weapons back (if not no legendary weapons)
2) Do I have to provide ammo (like missiles if I give them a missile launcher)
3) Are the "improvised weapons" the synths building pipe weapons or worse? If so there is no purpose in donating pipe weapons.

they just get stronger weapons. Like laser weapons (not institute) and automatics

1) AFAIK no

2) No, you just need to drop a few guns into the box and the optional objective is complete

3) Can't say because the quest never triggered for me, "continue working with Father" would never complete until i sided with the Railroad somewhere later in the Institute questline.
