Can your stored items get stolen?
So I've gathered up a huge amount of loot, including many weapons and just a lot of possibly useful items. I need to stash some of it so that I won't get encumbered and I can loot more stuff. If I stash it in Sanctuary, can it get raided and stolen?

I don't have much more than the basic permiter fortifications. I'm working on it. I'm going to take it that your answer is yes your stuff CAN be stolen.

I'm using Home Plate in Diamond City (player house for 2000 caps), needs the Strong Back perk though.
There you can build a proper arrangement of containers, so you have all your weapons in one locker and food in a fridge etc. which nobody will ever steal.

Use Workbench.

If you absolutely want to be sure, drop a chest anywhere inside of a settlement and put 4 walls around it. Remove a wall when you want to access.

I doubt you need to go that far, but its a solution.

Might want to mention why i suggest only using it with Strong Back - since you can run and fast travel while overencumbered, you don't need Local Leader and can pretty much abandon your settlements. If you want to build anything, you'll just fast travel there with 10000 pounds of junk and equipment for the settlers.

And you can finally use DC like the towns in Skyrim, so you have all the crafting stations and plenty of vendors right outside your house.
