Yeah! I can actually live with these gaps between the fences as I want my builds to look 'natural', but I still don't see how I can place floors half through the existing aparment buildings with this method. I just would like to use the walls from the apartrment building as the walls for my builds (it saves resources and looks cool). So basically fill up the gaps in the few places I can't put them through the building. Hope I make sense and not go too much off topic now. lol xD
yes if things were already there like a broken wall you cant place items thought it as far as i know. sometimes you can get lucky when snapping something together and it will go though it a lil. but this only works for items you have placed down already

plus if you see how i have my place built it's almost flush with the fire escape stairs which can be used to make your way to the top of the buildings still.
Fair enough. I'll definitely make the escape stairs easy access. :-) I'll make a post once it's finished.

That icky mirelurk construction, i had to Pick Up the babies and fling them away with 'hold E' yewww! then I put a floor next to the Workshop item and walls, one with a door, and radio beacon there too. then a prefab for beds.

if you scroll up you will see a vid i made it's 100% all built from floor wall and roof parts and u will see i have ppl up there. they still mostly stay at the bottom but they do make their way up and down from time to time. if you build a prefab shack. add a lil step stair to it it helps witht hem walking into it. almost everything has to be flush or they wont walk up it. it took me forever to get it right. a good way to test it is with your companion. order them to walk up or to go somewhere if he does then you know its good. they also may not use it right away. it took a few trips b4 they got the idea to use it.

These are not rooms mate, I'm talking about closed spaces, real rooms.

See the NPCs trying to go Casper-mode? That's the bad pathfinding I'm talking about.

Do these count as rooms? I had issues w/ settlers going into them at first, but I'm using short wooden walls to make makeshift doorways that are slightly wider than normal and haven't had any issues ever since.

2 of my settlement's beds are in the infirmary, so the settlers sleep there every night and frequent the shops since there are chairs in the rooms as well.

For me my favs are Dalton Farm , Nuka Red Rocket , Abernathy Farm/Red Rocket/Sanctuary trio (i count them as one big settlement because they are so closeby)

The worst : Croup Manor the pathing there is beyond horrific its unplayable settlers just stand on edge of the cliff or in water 90% of time dosen't matter how you build it

After more than 500 game hours I have tried all settlements, except Spectacle Island (too big and too much work), Bunker Hill and Boston Airport. From my experience the best one is Warwick Homestead:

Very easy to defend.
Friendly "geometry" and good size for construction (not too small, not too big).
Low-level attacks.
Generators and water purifiers can be safely placed within the structures at the back side, very far from the spawn point in the front side.
Pre-existing crops and settlers.
Cricket is often there.

Worst one: I would say Oberland Station:

Very small.
Ugly.
No water.
Nasty geometry.
Enemy spawning can happen inside the settlement.
Attacks are usually hard.
Enemies easily run downhill out of the turrets' fire.

Worst is the Alley of course, very small even with Clean Settlements.

As for worst, does ANYBODY have a build for that mirelurk construction site to the south that had the queen living in it?
Yeah I built there. Have to kill it first of course. Problem with that is game wise you get very few build triangles and run out of stuff quickly. So I put in ground leveling floors, made the building, then had to remove the ground leveling floors, to have more points to build, nasty but not like the "Dog" Alley small.

Have to agree with this. The one I like the best is the Slog. Second best would be Nuka World Red Rocket.

Hangman's Alley is actually my favourite, but according to this thread people don't like it as much as I do. the walls around it make it easy to build a good-looking second floor, it's also easier to hang conduits all over the place. Plus I think it looks nice :csd3perfect:

sigh. I mean, LOCATION wise the starlight drive in is pretty good.

and Castle is rather terrible.

Main issue with starlight is the lack of food spots but theres plenty of space on the western side for reasonably food supply. and then we got the whole center for whatever the hell we want so I set up some shops and crafting stations and other things.
DouglasGrave 25 ENE 2022 a las 5:59 a. m.
It depends on what standards you're using to judge it. You get different results depending on what factors you measure. For example, for food production Boston Airport is the worst because you can't produce any. But if you judge it by restricted building space, Covenant is the worst, with a tiny space filled with existing structures.

Personally, I dislike Bunker Hill, and rarely want to build anything there. It's hemmed in by a bunch of existing structures with only a few small bits and pieces that can be cleared, and unlike Covenant it doesn't look particularly nice on its own. Adding insult to injury, it's inside a nice neat square of dirt that would make a much better settlement boundary if only those unremovable junk walls weren't in the way.

My preferred settlements are Hangmans, Starlight and Norhagen. In HA I like to knock down the surrounding buildings and build something different. But usually I just settle for opening up a few apartments. Currently I'm trying to make an old shopping arcade/mall with a mixture of shops and apartments. Something with bright lights like this (obviously even with mods it can't look even close to this good) -

Norhagen I try to do as a farm with a brick sidewalk and beachfront houses. Somerville is probably my least favorite. I tried a few settlement mods (bugged so don't try it) at Ryders Rentals and Evans Way Cul-de-sac. Ryders is the truck yard between the brewery and the open multi-story super-mutant structure. I add warehouses. It's something a bit different from the usual settlement.

I'm trying to build a favela out of adobe and other colorful mods at Coastal Cottage, going up the hill. Something like this -

Lots of steps to see if npcs will use them.
