A question about ghouls
This is just a lore question that may have no real answer.

Ghouls live a long time. We know that from in game dialogue and meeting some ghouls that were alive (as humans) before the war. But does that mean that every ghoul we see was a pre-war human? Do they procreate? Are there ghoul babies?

(How long do ghouls live? Do they all eventually go feral? )

I would try the wiki first lol

I guess you haven't played the game much or listened? Many ghouls talk about being a mom pre war ghoul. Like Hancock said he took a rad drugs and became a ghoul when you meet him.

So no, ghouls can be made from many different things.

There is even a ghoul from before the war you might find.

Also no, they cannot have kids, radiations kills the certain things needed to make ghoul babies.

In the lore it seems if ghouls are exposed to even more intense radiation they could go feral, but we don't see that, but that's what it suggests.

Ghouls can live for as along as they have been around, so we can't know how long they live it's only been 200 years

1. Ghouls live a long time but not forever.
2. no not all ghouls are pre-war or saw the bombs fall, some became irradiated many years after the great war.
3. Ghouls should be sterile, the genetic structure is to damaged by radiation to facilitate reproduction.
4. there is a child ghoul in the game but he was a child when he became irradiated. so no babie or "newborn" ghouls.
5. all ghouls will eventually go feral, how long that process takes is unknown, it might be possible for some ghouls to remain cognitive for the rest of their days, some go feral in only a few years. the mechanism in game is unknown.

Ghouls have been created after the war in several instances. In NV camps serachlight, and the two locations you can open up at the end of the Lonesome Road have ghouls created in very short timeframes by massive radiation doses, and in FO4 John Hancock became a ghoul in 2277, 200 years after the bombs dropped.

The much more intressting question would be...*inhales deeply to stretch the anticipation of the audinence*

Do ghouls drown if underwater, because they have no nose to close?

What? You don't need to hold your nose to go underwater?

In the kid in the fridge quest billy was stuck inside a fridge for 200 years, so I don't think they need food, water or air to survive. But its weird he became a ghoul but not feral. Overexposure to rads turns them to ghoul, so why those same radiation didn't turn him feral?

The Bethesda rep discussed that beause Ghouls need food and water and he should have been a feral.

Bethesda rep was offended by people trying to make logic out of make believe. So people settled on that Ghouls don't need food and water to live but to function they need it, then also they didn't want a child being a zombie like freak so that is why they didn't turn him into a feral.

So lore wise he admits to them not caring for the lore.

Pff if Indiana jones survives a nuke in a fridge it should be all right for a kid to only turn into a ghoul but not in a feral XD

Actually the form of your nose (pointing downwards) prevents water going into your nose, because the air is its way and cant get out, the nose is pointing downwards and the (lighter than water) air wants up.

Try it, if you are swimming next time and try to turn upside down underwater. You wont get filled with water, but it is a little bit unpleasant.

@the ghoul topic: The origin of ghouls is not clear, because even the fallout writer dont know their ♥♥♥♥^^

Confusion over originsEdit

There is some controversy, even among the makers of Fallout games, about the origins of ghouls. While Tim Cain said explicitly that ghouls are only a result of radiation, consistent with an understanding of the science of radiation as it stood during the 1950s, Chris Taylor said that a mix of both radiation and FEV was involved. While Chris Avellone initially supported the latter view in his Fallout Bible,[5] he was later convinced to support the radiation-only version.

Thats very interesting. About the nose stuff. I'm all too willing to just use my suspension of disbelief about ghouls. I huess I try too hard to come up with reasons for everything in a fantasy sci-fi setting.
