Problem advancing the quest 'From within'.

** Potential spoilers **

I currently need to 'retrieve evidence to convince Dr. Li' and i need to get her that holotape from Virgil's lab.
I know where that holotape needs to be, but i cant see it. I suspect i grabbed it long ago while being there before i started the quest. The quest marker points on me, however i dont have the holotape on me, and talking to Dr. Li gives me nothing informative.
The holotape is called 'Brian Virgil personal log 0176'[fallout.wikia.com].
The issue may be a quest collision of some kind but i dont see anything that could collide with that quest except maybe the quest to cure Dr. Virgil[fallout.wikia.com] himself (i've cured him already and even searched his cave at the Glowing Sea but found nothing).

So what can i do now? I'm slightly tempted to 'rush' the quest using console commands but i know how screwy the game can get from that (and i dont know the specific commands for this quest and how to poerate them in Fallout 4 - Played Skyrim alot so i'm familiar with the overall template).
So what are my options?

Wow this is old.
Yea apparently i forgot this is a Bethesda game so i screwed this quest up by accident when i took the holotape from the desk before triggering the quest itself.
Long story short, it can be finished if u just convince Dr. Li about joining the BoS. Even without any 'charisma' it can be done with some trial and error (3 chats to get her to say yes - just save after each successful acceptance and load after each failure).

Check his lab the tape is next to his computer. Give it to her.

If it was that obvious he would have gotten it already. The waypoint literally leads to that place.
My guess is that he made the same mistake as i did.

You could kill her, i believe theres an alternate npc

yes, i made the same mistake. Marker leads to location but because i already got the tape before triggering the quest, i can't "get" the tape now and the quest won't progress. also, because i can't "get" the tape, i can't "give" it to her because i don't "have" it.

Ive done the same thing as you and ots always given me the option to hand over the tape.

yeah, i finally found the option but not the way i thought it would which is why i didn't see it right away. it's all good.

As a said before, the alternative way is to convince her to go with BoS. An annoying option but it always works.

I had the same problem. I had put "the item" into my storage at Sanctuary Hills not realising what it was for. If anyone else has this problem, if you leave the institute you will see a marker to wherever you left "the item" to collect. When I took it from the chest, I got a message saying that I had completed it sucessfully.
