That doesn't really say much at all.
Just finish your current run from where you are, and remember this when you start a new one.
"Lol just start over" is already known to me and its exactly what I'm trying to avoid here.
Lets say you use the console command to start from quest Railroad #8, well Railroad quest #8 does not run right because the script in Railroad #7 was not run because you chose a different option that failed the Railroad part.
Then because you have already done some of the Institute quests (which had Railroad options and would have been Railroad #10, #11, etc) those scripts did not run.
Once a quest has been completed you cannot do it again, so basically you would be able to backtrack and do it for the Railroad through the console.
Yet if I you SetStage to force start an Railroad quest I'm redirected to Underground Undercover quest, allowing me to speak with railroad NPCs again... the problem is I have no clue how this will affect the game, or if I would even need console commands at all to achieve my goal here, because from the Fallout 4 quest charts I shouldn't even be having this issue.
Starting over is not what I suggested, I merely made an observation that maybe you could continue your current game and take it to completion from where you are at present. Due to the nature of FO4, as I assume you know, you will at some point, invariably, start a fresh run, and better plan the outcome you wished for.
It's not just the Magazine, I also didn't get Deacon as a follower, or his Perk.
If there was a way to do it, then I would know about it. Call it it an egotistical attitude or whatever, others call it knowledge and experience.
That is your answer....
....whether you like it or not.
You can ignore what I said try to console your way through it and then when it fails you are going to realize I was right and you wasted a lot of time and created a headache trying to console your way through it. Then you are going to do what everyone else does, get pissed off at me for being right.
...they say the Fallout 4 story line has no consequences or choices that make a difference.
Worst case scenario I can get the magazine and companion perk via console.
It's just dumb that you get locked out of all that content without any sort of warning, and even if you do a research about it to avoid this sort of issue, most information is not quite right, as the "points of no return" quests are supposed to come after this.
Now I either start over or try to cheat my way around it, after spending hours and hours collecting all bobbleheads and most magazines in survival mode... its just very frustrating.
Since you're in survival mode you can't use the console anyway. Commit to this run without the RR's presence. You made them an enemy and the game TOLD you as much, so ... this is the consequences.
Welcome to Survival Mode. That's why you chose it, right? Those of us who dislike self-imposed frustration as a substitute for actual gameplay avoid survival modes.
Which means the OP locked themself out of getting Deacon as a companion.
The game didn't “TOLD ME” anything, the RR is not my “enemy”, I didn't hit the quests of “point of no return” yet, they just refuse to give me quests after my first visit to the Institute. Supposedly “loading back” shouldn't be much of a choice either, because just as the console is disabled in survival, so are the save games, though in this situation I'm using a mod that enables both because: “Bugthesda”, I have it just for the survival mechanics, extra difficulty and honestly don't really mind the walking... therefore “LULZ SURVIVAL!” has NOTHING to do with the issue here, as you could had probably realized by now if you read my posts instead of trying to be snarky about it.
I'm obviously aware that loading back or starting over are options, but are options that I would like to avoid if possible as both will cost me plenty of hours... but as Bored Peon mentioned, console commands probably won't get me far on this one, while I can speak to the RR again by activating the “Underground Undercover” quest, I can't do “Tradecraft” anymore, I guess I could try to force Deacon into my party and boost his relationship, but then again might just give myself the perk and magazine at that point... and that's whats frustrating to me, I'm locked out of a big chunk of content after investing hours into this play trough for making a “choice” that was never presented to me.
