Official High Resolution Texture Pack? Texture mods? Or both?
I'm starting a completely new game of FO4 (with clean install) after a couple of years of not playing and I want to make the game look as "modern" as possible. The last time I played I had installed the big HD texture pack off Steam and then several texture mods like Vivid Fallout and noticed the game was looking really good. But did I actually need the HD pack?

I've been modding games for a long time but while game play mods are easy for me to understand I seem to get confused with mods that change the looks of game as I don't really understand if they work together or if I download two or three then one will basically override the others and it becomes sort redundant to have so many. Is this truly the case or am I way off on this?

Anyway, I'd welcome advice on mods that I should download that will make my game look as good as possible.

The High Res pack was designed for 4K. No sense in downloading 50Gb of textures when there are mods on Nexus that will do the same at a fraction of the size.

Any suggestions for some good graphics/texture mods?

too many good ones and many can be used in combo with others. All comes down to taste. No two people mod their game the exact same way.

Thanks. I asked the same question on Reddit and got some suggestions for mods that I had already used in the past. This also answers my question about using multiple texture mods. Like I said I wasn't sure if it was worth using more than one but now it seems like it's okay to use a few at a time.

even for 4k you are better off with a pack on nexus

It depends on what you are looking for. Generally, do I suggest going with performance mods so that you get the best framerates out of your game right from the start, even on good hardware. This lets you add many more mods further down the road. Several performance-oriented mods do include a high-res version that sometimes might even make it slower, but for an upgrade in visual quality. This, too, can be better than the HD Texture Pack.

Here is a link to a comment of mine with a mod list that I have made a while ago. It lists various optimization mods as well as a few minor visual enhancement mods, which do not take it too far from the vanilla game. No changes in game-play however apart from what the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch fixes.

Most people recommended that you avoid the hi-res texture pack. It's unoptimized and probably works best as a modder's resource. BiRaitBec's modlist[www.nexusmods.com] is old and unmaintained, but it's still a good starting point. Thuggysmurf's guide[www.nexusmods.com] also has good advice.

I'm using high resolution and some other I found on nexus. Can't really tell, its just better. I think I tried to remove the high texture dlc and my game kept crashing.
