The manual way by downloading the achives from SteamDB, this way takes the longest, but is the most complete. There are multiple guides on Nexus on how to do this.
The other way is with a mod. There are several that do it differently. One just automates the SteamDB downloads, and the other is a fast 2 minute process. but how it does it I have no idea - and most who try this quick way report problems.
Both mods are found on Nexus.
If you are trying to get FOLON working then you may want to do these steps to ensure you FOLON experience is the best and not a buggy mess...
1: UNINSTALL Fallout 4 (yes, really)
2: navigate to the Steamapps folder and DELETE the fallout 4 folder.
2: navigate to my documents/my games/fallout 4 and delete all files and folders found.
THIS ensures you have no left over files from the previous fallout 4 install, CC, and mods that could cause you issues in FOLON.
4: re-install Fallout 4.
5: downgrade
6: install FOLON. - FOLLOWING EVERY SINGLE STEP. DO NOT SKIP A STEP!!! BE METICULOUS!!! I put this is in caps because this is important! if you don't do it exactly problems WILL arise.
No, the mod will not work without the DLCs
so no need to roll back and may be cheaper then buying the DLC on steam... (check, not sure myself)
They deal exclusively in older games and make them DRM free, and often provide patches to keep older games working on new rigs.
But, as always, it's your money and your choice :D
get the goty Edition on GOG and follow the instructions on the sticky thread of their forum regarding a 100% clean install.
I have zero problems with the game. unlike Vanilla F4
You don't need anything beyond the vanilla game and the PRIOR TO UPDATE dlc.
So the Mechanist, Far Harbor, Nuka, Vault 88, and whatever the fifth one is that adds manufacturing. What came out as the Next Generation update should certainly not be installed nor would it be required, it's part of why they had to delay release because it's entirely incompatible with FOLON.
