I would be ok with that. I would have bought it in a heart beat. The Update has been great for myself. Not had any major issues with any of it. Lots of extra content was added. I appreciate Beth doing that.
The OP is dead wrong with the exception for himself it might be a failure. But for a lot of other players, it has been great.
If I wanted the CC content, I would have bought it. Now its just something to deal with.
Most mods, with the exception of Pip Boy Storage, seems to work now.
That's definitely not the general consensus. It fixed HDR... That's about the only thing that's noticeable in a good way (like a lot of people, I don't use the creation club stuff so I won't comment on that).
Previously existing bugs that were fixed? You're having a laugh... They haven't even fixed the weapon debris bug from years ago yet.
Various other problems were introduced by the next gen update. These weren't fixed in the patch that came after.
The ultrawide support? Great if you want an awful looking hud. Mods do it better...
Oh, and of course that's just for the vanilla users...
Obviously it broke a lot of mods. It should have been an optional install. Hell, all of Bethesdas updates should be optional on games that have been out for years... (I actually didn't actually have this problem, I've been blocking FO4 updates for a coup[le of years now).
"...experience Fallout on your next-gen PC with WS and UWS support..."
That only meant that, under specific conditions, the game might recognize WS/UWS setups, but the UI wasn't fixed for it. (Since "next-gen PC" has such a variable definition, that phrase means nothing.)
They promised bug fixes, but they never promised every bug would be fixed. (That's fair, though. No developer can fix every bug.) Though, there were some expectations of specific common bugs being fixed, like Weapon Debris (at least being turned off by default since that the technology it needs isn't being used anymore) and the FPS issue on fast PCs causing either freaky gameplay or long loading times.
So, the sum total on PC is some CC being forced upon players whether or not they wanted it.
Still, the solutions that worked prior for non-modded games still work after the 2024 Update. It's all the mods people were using that were needlessly broken just so Bethsoft could keep the PC version in-line with the next-gen console updates. Is it easier for Bethsoft to support the same features across all platforms? Maybe... if they intended to keep supporting them.
The update fixed a good number of bugs though. Them not fixing something that doesn't have an easy fix doesn't negate that.
Weren't they mostly to do with the CC stuff though?

It's dead huh, according to who? Did you run a census or something, or did you run some before and after comparisons using player number statistics? Would you mind sharing your results then?
No?
Thought so.
Then; it's "dead because it's a failure no more update patches". WTH does that even mean?
The logic at work here is mind numbing.
There's about 24,000 people playing Fallout 4 on Steam at the moment. Where do you come up with "millions?"
But perish the thought you want "The Silver Shroud" to run right or be able to zone in and out of a building in under 43 seconds. Come on man, that list is a bunch of obscure corporate speak. It's total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
They didn't fix ♥♥♥♥, they just busted everything up for non-corporate modders and then forced a bunch of totally lame corporate mods written by total strangers on the internet into your game whether you wanted them or not.
Look at all these fanboys, heres a fact check

People hate the nextgen update, get over yourself, it sucks, it broke peoples mods, its comically oversized and hardly makes the game look better.
