Rescuing a cat
There's a cat trapped in a church basement. I have a mind to try to rescue it and send it to a settlement. I don't think that will have any particular consequences for the game, but I tried several console commands and couldn't make it happen yet. What might I be doing wrong?

You can't rescue the cats or stray dogs unless you have a mod... There's a cat in one of the donut shops and I think a laundrymat.

The only way to get a cat (lots of cats, in fact) I know of is to build a small cage with soft mirelurk meat in it (dlc). Cats increase happiness and having dogs and cats running around adds to immersion.

Hmmm. Never really done this with pets before. Try this?

Open console and get the ID of the pet
Go to the desired settlement
use the id.moveto 14
click on the pet in the console
setpv bAllowMove 1
addkeyword workshopallowmove
Then select move to the settlement you are at.

I liked the Cat Rescue holotape in Fallout 76 better.

There is a mission where you have to find and sort of rescue a cat that escaped from vault 81.

Ashes go home! Erin misses you.

I'm not a cat person, but Erickson (Far Harbor) routinely sells some mighty good dogs overtime IMHO (providing happiness and defense).

I tried the moveto command, but it seemed to have no effect from great distance. When I was just outside the activator for the basement cell the moveto command did make the cat appear, but the little sucker immediately went back through the basement doors itself! It's scripted to stay there, apparently. I guess those other commands might be essential to making it work, if that is enough to override its scripting.

Did that quest day before yesterday for the first time. Found the cat DEEP UNDER WATER in the nearby lake.

That's troubling (haven't seen that myself, don't use of console commands or mods), might portend more dismay down the road.

Yeah that shouldn't happen unless you let it wander around, or something else was there. Normally you'd just head straight for the dead guy on the dock next to the houses there, and not into the lake itself.
Nitemares Jul 28, 2024 @ 10:55pm
its just a pathing issue.

Ashes tries to follow a "path" to get to the dock, BUT thanks to the physics engine and items like the warning stand, street cones, cars and what not, items can end up on and blocking that path, resulting in Ashes going every which way to reach the dock...

EVENTUALLY, ashes will appear at the dock... but over the years that damn cat ended up EVERYWHERE around that mash... from in the boats, to under the chair, to in the pond, to in the reeds... even on the roof once!

I headed straight to the quest marker, and there was the cat down in the lake.
