"Next gen update" opinion
So, what are we thinking about the update? Do mods work? F4SE updated yet? Or are we downgrading the game and playing old version?

Works great.

It was silly, and didn't have the obvious minimum "next gen" changes that some of us expected (like fixing the "60fps engine" thing)

Do mods work?

For the most part. I just had to update ~6 mods from my 2023 setup for it to run. But most of mine are texture/clothing/weapon mods, not fancy scripted stuff.

F4SE updated yet?

Long ago.

Or are we downgrading the game and playing old version?

Well, you need to downgrade to try the Fallout:London mod, so a lot of people are doing that. (and then getting bugs, and complaining about it.)

It doesn´t. It makes most Mods don´t work. Playing a Bethesda Game with less than 200 active Mods which you have carefully trying to play nicely along for at least 2 weeks, is like Getting your Skull Smashed by a 100lb Sledgehammer by Conan the Barbarian, and then getting your skull abused sexually.

Also the Patch doesn´t improve ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I start to believe Crapthesda released the update to screw modders, because they get owned by them so hard, since there are so many free mods, that are better than the basegame (not that this is a high bar to jump over).

I'm going to need a list of these "most mods" that don't work. Because like I said, I only had to update like 6 mods, and everything is fine.

It works, and it's worked for me straight out of the box, played Vanilla for a stretch, maybe 20 or so hours and no major issues. Went back to my mods after F4SE and it's plugins were updated, and been running the NG version with my 40 or so mods ever since. I think I had to drop about 3 or so very old mods that were srewing with my game, but found others to replace them with.

Regarding people with ridiculously large mod lists; any effects you are experiencing in your skull, are self inflicted.

The update is a false advertisement conceived from a childish afterthought followed by the Fallout show. They wanted more people to buy Fallout games thanks to the success of the show. So, other than FO76 that is still getting official support - what other Fallout games from the recent decade can also be updated? Easy enough, Fallout 4, as it's literally precedes FO76 and both have the same mechanics and engine, so might as well.

The problem? Low effort work, non-existing "next-gen" features, low-quality and uninteresting CC content with a new but shoehorned Enclave questline that brings nothing of value to the overall experience of the game (whether you play it modded or not), breaking game mechanics, creating more bugs, and, obviously, breaking the long-lasting mods created years ago, which kept maintaining the game after BUGthesda ditched the official support for FO4. This circles back to the first paragraph: why they came back to update FO4? Because reasons. What happened after the "hotfixed" the update? Nothing else. They dropped an update, provided no further explanation, and leave.

Mods-wise, the game is playable with the latest update. Not every mod works, therefore you should be careful with mods you're running, and some of the essentials like F4SE, Buffout 4, etc., are still being worked on.

It doesnt... I have over 800 mods (about 400 or 500 were completely broken and did not work) and I had to downgrade the damn game here, it was a very long process (multiple hours) and eventually Fallout London downgrader did help to make the game playable again (I do not play FO London but it was the only downgrader that worked)... Also please note that my 800+ mods run better than vanilla FO4 and vanilla FO4 runs like 10x better than "next gen" update... Its also fake update since there aint nothing "next gen" about it cuz what I imagine under FO4 Next Gen update is no loading screens when entering interriors, AI that can jump and navigate terrain properly (especially stairs) and can shoot accurately while taking cover (not that Piper stands in the middle of the battlefield tanking 99% of all shots while missing every single shot and killing 0 enemies despite me giving her the best of the best weapons I got), having Raytracing (Cyberpunk quality or very close to it) and especially without RT you cant call anything "next gen" anymore since RT is current generation and next generation will be something much better (but for FO4 it would make sense to call raytracing update a next gen update)... Adding a few pieces of clothing and weapons while completely messing up armor and weapon keywords and breaking the game even further while making the new content "non lore friendly and way too OP" makes the game very bad...

I know its silly but buy the game on GOG for 16 bucks with all DLC's included and that game is without the next gen BS... Steam version is completely ♥♥♥♥♥ up... GOG FTW in this case.

It does. Any issues with mods are your own problem and not Bethesda's.

imagine calling your update "next gen update " and not having fsr/dlss or even a texture pack.

I dont know what exactly is next gen in this . Maybe for console users a 120 fps patch is next gen but why in the hell the pc update is called "next gen" just call it an update FFS

If you mod the game, then stay with 1.10.163 for now.

IF you choose to update, then just know that will have to add more mods to "fix" the errors that Bethesda has introduced like the facegen data for NPCs: This bug causes stutters whenever NPCs are loaded into the game, creating stutters to CTDs. (there is a "fix" for this now... but it, itself is a buggy mess right now)

VATS has also been damaged with the NG update, resulting in game freezes if you use VATS and chems, and have a disease... (no fix yet)

Freezing in crafting has also been reported in the NG update.... (no fix yet. WSFR seems to help)

If you play Vanilla... then the above issues will be minimal, and updating may be for you... if yo like free CC stuff justy injected intot he game with no lore reasoning, and a very un-immersive pop-ups as you leave the vault... (typical for Bethesda added crap)
I'm the walrus Jul 28, 2024 @ 9:06am
-updated/broke the game
-added useless content that is worse than 2018 mods
-Called it next gen without adding anything of next gen (DLSS/FSR)
-Lengthened Loading time

Steam does not offer "pause updates for this game" for FO4 anymore so anyone that wants to reinstall the game (like what I had to do) is screwed unless the person has GOG version which is without the update (thanks god that GOG atleast cares)... And downgrade is possible with Fallout London downgrader but its a task for multiple hours and sometimes it breaks and has to be restarted completely (delete FO4, install FO4 again and run downgrader again if the downgrade breaks at any point during installation)...

DLSS aint next gen... Raytracing is next gen, DLSS is an addition to Raytraced titles to help with the performance hit...

Or, you do it manually like I did.

There are in fact several different mods to downgrade as well....not just the FOLON down grade tool.
