I did this and it works just fine. They will share the same savegame and INI file directory, but I found this convenient as I didn't have to reconfigure my settings again.
I have done it, and Im not the brightest kid on the block.
I will use GOG for Fallout London (once all the fan boys download it because the download is at 25 m/s and its' 33 g/s, says "Two days" to download And steam for 198.) to play with the old FO4 mods without the 198 update
Fallout London takes over your game, so if you play it, your'e done with FO4
I also have an actual modded steam version and the previous version on gog for folon now.
1 Duplicate Steam installs: (saves money)
I've never done two installs of the same game from Steam before, but from what you are saying I can just move the existing FO4 folder out of Steam folders and reinstall the game into the steam folders once more. So I have the old 'Next Gen' version outside of Steam folders and a new one for London inside, is that correct?
If so, will the one outside of the normal steam location still be listed as a playable game in the library or do I have to manually add it back to the steam library or start it from a shortcut? And will both still be maintained by Steam IF there are any future patches?
2 Install GOG as well: (costs more)
Just purchase the GOG game and install it in separate GOG folder outside of Steam.
Thanks (unless I've misunderstood something)
The real question is, why? If you can run a game absent a client and without being coerced to update it, why would you choose any other option? Just so you could have the craptastic update with the shoddy CC content when you're not even using a console? It boggles the mind.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fallout/fallout-london-how-to-install/
- It immediately starts bashing Bethesda for updating their game. How dare a developer update their own game. An update that was known to be coming for close to a year.
- It blames the late release of Fallout London on Bethesda. News flash if Fallout London is using the old version then there should not have been a THREE MONTH delay. DUH.
- Then the article tells you to go install a mod which wants to use your user name and password. Let me guess the mod was made by a exiled Nigerian prince who wants to reclaim the throne.
Why should any mod user have to take such elaborate jumps through hoops to get a mod to run? Jumping through those hoops only encourages that such behavior, passing until they make a stand alone version like Enderal is the best thing to do.
I have the pre-next gen install in my Steam folder. That lousy excuse of an update never touched my files.
If I copy the Fallout 4 folder from Steam somewhere else, will I be able to direct the installer to this non-Steam folder copy and launch the game from there?
Or will this copy simply be a back up for once I am done with FOLON?
Could you explain how please, what is altered and where.
I'd like to get Steam saving in one folder and the GOG version in another separate folder.
Thanks
