YUP, started after the update - they "fixed" the game for us... again

Damn! I thought this happen to me only. So the update really brought this again, right?

Seems that way. I kept playing for a bit and stopped noticing the stuttering, ran into a glitch that broke a mission and started to lose the desire to play the game. Same thing happened years ago, started the game then quit due to the game and its janky jankness

Starting to thing there's a typo in "Next gen update", should read "Last gen update" because it now runs like it did on the xbone at release

Ah man this game is all sorts of buzz kill. I'll take a look tomorrow night and see if that guide has anything useful but meh... more effort for a game riddled with jank

The stuttering occurs at spawn points since the 2 updates. Any mod that adds new exterior npc's or edits npc files will cause stuttering at these points, sometimes severely. I spent many hours tracking down all the stuttering in mods I made and in other peoples mods im using.

My hardware is 4090/14900ks/ssd. Prior to update I could sprint across entire map, zero stuttering and no fps drop below 60. After the update, it was a stutterfest at spawn and cell transition areas. Decreasing settings, and doing normal things to improve performance wont stop the stuttering.

Vanilla game only, the stuttering is minimal and only at a few spawn points.

vanilla with unofficial fallout 4 bug fix has significant stuttering in several spawn areas, mostly tied to unnecessary npc file edits, ie spelling/punctuation/capitalization changes. Also it edits multiple outside objects in some of commonwealth exterior areas causing stuttering...I had to abandon it and just keep my own bug fix file with ~20 bug fixes.

I love raider gang extended mod, but since it adds exterior npc's via copying precombines with temp edits...it causes horrible stuttering. This is not a fixable issue as the updated game engine doesnt tolerate exterior npc editing or new exterior npcs, unless you dont mind 1-2 second hard stuttering as they spawn. So had to abandon that one as well.

adding enemies interior, just takes 1-2 seconds extra to load, so not noticeable...but 1-2 seconds of hard drops in fps from exterior npcs is noticeable and annoying.

I am going to play through new updated game once, then may revert back to old..depends on how much I miss few mods I used that added exterior npcs. america rising 2 doesnt seem to cause issues as most npcs added not in exterior commonwealth.

We also no longer have Buffout 4 and BakaMaxPapyrusOps working since the update. These make a difference when they fix engine bugs and replace the default memory allocators.

I never used buffout or baka as last 6000+ hours have zero CTD and zero stuttering...but this new engine change causing spawn site stuttering, worse with any mod that edits npc files or adds commonwealth exterior npcs...not sure if any mod will fix this engine change. would love to be wrong though.

the fix would require undoing whatever change bethesda did to the engine. Reducing settings, etc doesnt do anything for spawn site stuttering.

Go to Nexus and search for 'high priority anti-stuttering mod'

Came out in april, does not rely on F4SE, perfectly safe to use

They added some new .ini settings. I have not checked with the 2nd update, but if these are still in the game then it may have something to do with those:

The game appears to use buffers from transferring data to the graphics card (a new .ini section called [Memory]). You could try setting these to 1 or 256 instead of the default 16 to see if it has any effect.

I also have experienced significantly worse stuttering at cell transitions. This was somewhat noticeable after the 25 Apr update and immediately more noticeable after the 13 May update. Although that may be because on 13 May I was using Survival mode with no fast travel.

This is on a PS4 where I can't block updates and can't tweak INI settings.

Interesting idea that UFO4P may make it worse. I may try that.
