No still crashes on RTX card.

Next gen patch only works on past gen hardware.

No, you literally cannot. I just posted that RTX cards do not support Nvidia FleX. This is not an issue with the developers of Fallout 4 but with RTX cards and Nvidia.

This is 100% incorrect. You can go to: https://github.com/NVIDIAGameWorks/FleX, download, build and see that it works fine on RTX cards, in both DX and CUDA variants.
This is an issue with the developer not updating from beta builds.

Taken from the mod description: This mod fixes crashes when the Weapon Debris setting is enabled on Nvidia RTX/GTX video cards by disabling the collision of fragments with the surface (watch the video).

So basically the crash is fixed if the fragments collision are disabled. And Bethesda cannot implement something like that by default? Or just grey out the option if a non-GTX GPU is detected?

Still the current thing is very vague allowing each user to enable it and make the game crash. I spent lot of time initially trying to understand why my game was crashing and was not expecting that option to be the reason.

The mod literally disables FleX effects, it's literally the same as having the option turned off. How hard is this to understand?

Again, no it is not the same. Weapon debris mod is just disabling COLLISION which is what is making the game crash. If you turn off Weapon Debris the particles don't even spawn the same way.

You can go to the weapon debris fix mod forum and see the author is working on a potential fix to allow collision this time. Apparently something changed with next-gen update on this regard.

And again, incredibly sad a modder need to fix an option Bethesda is currently providing making the game CRASH. It is a MAJOR issue and they are not taking care of it.

Nvidia issue.

Just played the game post-May 13th patch with no mods. Can confirm that Weapon Debris set to Ultra will still crash the game in under a minute upon loading game.

Of course you could fix it. The only question is, do you want to put as much resources into it to fix it?

Then you should just remove the option completely. It's ridiculous that an option
that causes so many problems is still in play.

No, you literally cannot. I just posted that RTX cards do not support Nvidia FleX. This is not an issue with the developers of Fallout 4 but with RTX cards and Nvidia. FleX also has not been updated in over 5 years and is basically shelved.

The reason why its still included is because it still actually works on GTX cards, if you were to turn it on with a GTX 1070 for example it will work somewhat fine though its basically a prototype feature.

this is absolute cap, killing floor 2 still has the flex library and launches just fine on an rtx card. a plugin cannot just suddenly become unsupported unless the entire gpu software is rewritten or whatever

It's literally broken in KF2 too as well, because it is DISCONTINUED. In KF2 it breaks the same way Weapon Debris breaks in Fo4 with the 'fix mod' that still shows particles but the collision and flow of particles is broken. Meaning you can play but the FleX effect isn't actually working as it's supposed to work.

Hate that I have to explain this so many times because people can't understand that this is legacy tech that nobody is working on anymore.

There will NEVER be a proper fix for this tech for modern GPUs.

Just turn weapon debris off. When you like flying bits&pieces then put perk points into Bloody Mess instead (see under Luck).

ffs, Behesda please... if you fix things, then the things that are broken for almost a Decade ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Weapon Debris as well as a lot of Bugs of the Game and the Engine would be great. :(

This is incorrect. If you repeat a lie even a thousand times, it will not make it true.

NVFlex technology is still around for download, but it is declared "legacy" by Nvidia now. It only went through a couple of revisions and never made it past version 1.2.

https://developer.nvidia.com/flex-example

Interesting to note is that it once also worked for AMD and Intel graphics.

You would need this first:
NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 396.45 or above
AMD Radeon Software Version 16.9.1 or above
Intel® Graphics Version 15.33.43.4425 or above

But drivers this old and supporting NVFlex will lack support for newer cards, and vice versa.

Instead of beating down on Bethesda can one also tip one's hat to Bethesda for trying to use a new technology, which at the time was a novelty, but later got abandoned by the original makers. They took a chance on Nvidia, and Nvidia pulled out and allowed it to backfire.

This is some kind of bizaro world you live in. Flex works just fine on new GPUs. Go to Github, download, run it and see for yourself.

Bethesda used a beta build from NVIDIA. Later on NVIDIA released a proper version that is universally supported. Bethesda did not update to it because they got lazy, and NVIDIA is to blame for this?

Not sure to whom you are responding with your comment, but just because one can download a demo still and play around with it does not mean it cannot be bugged. The crash then happens inside the NVFlex DLL and not in the game's executable. Unless you are suggesting Bethesda should fix NVFlex do I not see what your point is. And why should they fix it? It is off by default now. Anyone who complains about this merely fails to walk away from an abandoned feature.

I suggest that Bethesda should update the Flex to the version that is on Github.
Obviously they should not fix it, and I highly doubt they even have the technical know-how to fix it.

Well, to help people decide for themselves, head over to YouTube and look up what Weapon Debris actually gives you in Fallout 4.

Personally, I think its garbage, unneeded and useless fluff. I would of turned it off regardless.

Other people might want it. But I suggest checking out and deciding if its worth it.
