Weapon Debris uses Nvidia FleX (not PhysX) and RTX cards have no support for it whatsoever.
There is no 'fixing' this option.
Of course you could fix it. The only question is, do you want to put as much resources into it to fix it?
Then you should just remove the option completely. It's ridiculous that an option
that causes so many problems is still in play.
No, you literally cannot. I just posted that RTX cards do not support Nvidia FleX. This is not an issue with the developers of Fallout 4 but with RTX cards and Nvidia. FleX also has not been updated in over 5 years and is basically shelved.
The reason why its still included is because it still actually works on GTX cards, if you were to turn it on with a GTX 1070 for example it will work somewhat fine though its basically a prototype feature.
So what exactly is the mod doing? Because weapon debris it is working with my RTX + the mod.
It's disabling Nvidia FleX so you can play with the weapon debris option enabled. it's functionally the same as having the option disabled. I've seen the mod on the nexus myself and even tested it, the weapon debris effect literally does not work the way FleX is supposed to work (because it's disabled)
Then you should ensure that the option is automatically deactivated for everyone with an appropriate graphics card.
Do you really believe that in 2024 an outdated particle based simulation technique for real-time visual effects should not be removed and that the same result could not be achieved with other methods today?
Call it what you want but again it's Bethesda that only wants or can do the bare minimum.
As far as I'm aware weapon debris is always off by default, also this is literally an effect and game, from 2015. Like I said already it works on the intended hardware of it's time, if your gpu doesn't support it just don't enable it. It's that simple.
Taken from the mod description: This mod fixes crashes when the Weapon Debris setting is enabled on Nvidia RTX/GTX video cards by disabling the collision of fragments with the surface (watch the video).
So basically the crash is fixed if the fragments collision are disabled. And Bethesda cannot implement something like that by default? Or just grey out the option if a non-GTX GPU is detected?
Still the current thing is very vague allowing each user to enable it and make the game crash. I spent lot of time initially trying to understand why my game was crashing and was not expecting that option to be the reason.
The mod literally disables FleX effects, it's literally the same as having the option turned off. How hard is this to understand?
I will agree that the option is vague, and bethesda should clearly mention that modern GPUs have no support for it but bethesda is almost always vague and lacking in explanation.
If I remember correctly when the game game out they at least advertised that weapon debris was an Nvidia card only option but they just couldn't have forseen that it would become discontinued.
