The vertibirds you can shoot down, the Prydwen you cannot

The previous time I played before my current playthrough, I had zero dealings with any BoS. The Prydwen and vertibird encounters never happened, but this was also before the NG Update and I had the CC version of the UOFP. So, those may have been factors. (This time, I did the BoS up to the quest stage before activating Prime to go to the CIT but let the Minutemen have all the glory instead.)

You don't have to shoot down the vertibirds. Any level 1 raider will do it for you. The real question is how to avoid all the crashing vertibirds everywhere ...
Stop of appearing at random locations? Just wait for some leveled raider to bring it down, cause devs forgot to equally buff the vertibirds. XD
For some commenters decrying the weakness:
There is a mod to buff the vertibirds called "Durable Vertibirds". on Nexus
To the OP, you can shoot them down yourself

There is also my mod Vicious Vertibirds. It doesn't make them resist damage more, but it makes them dish it out aggressively. "Best defense is a good offense."

It is canonical (Maxson says it) that the Vertibirds you see are light utility transports with light armament. They are explicitly not gunships.

All my mod does is give them their firepower back. In the base game their 5mm minigun is about half the power of the one you rip off the Concord Vertibird, which makes no sense, and their 5mm nose cannons are even weaker, which makes even less sense.

The main reason Vertibirds die so much in vanilla is because they lack offensive firepower to neutralise threats.

I play BoS a lot (yes, I am a fascist) and I don't notice any increased frequency of Vertibird activity after Next Gen. The BoS are always very busy beavers keeping the Commonwealth safe from the various clear and present threats to settled humans - ferals, raiders, mutants, synths - not that they get any thanks, mind you. ;-)

They stop themselves by crashing into nothing lol

I'm convinced Bethesda wanted lots of Vertibird crashes to increase the drama and heighten tension. Hardly an encounter from the air ever happens without at least one Vertibird crashing. I've seen dozens. The cost would be unsustainable. And where do they all come from anyway? The Prydwen has only room for about four as I recall.

Missile launcher is my favorite to take them down, but you ideally need the third Aquaboy perk so they lose you underwater. Otherwise they give you no peace.

The vertibirds are made of paper mache, some jet fried wastelander can take them down with a pipe pistol.

A mini-nuke should do it.

You don't just stop them. You get them at the source. destroy the Brotherhood.
