Crashing on Start up, need help.
Hi Folks, returning to Fallout4 after years of not playing it, have since upgraded PC and now whenever i try to load into fallout, i get the "please stand by" screen for about 3 seconds then it closes, have uninstalled / reinstalled, verified files, tried to change the INI settings, turned off god rays / weapon debris, reverted all settings back lots of times with no joy..

Anyone have any solutions? Specs below

Make sure to run the game on the Nvidia GPU and not the integrated GPU.

I had frequent crashes if I had Weapon Debris enabled. Once I turned off Weapon Debris, no more crashes. However, I was always able to get into the actual game, not crash on the "stand by" screen.

Driver Date: 7 19 2022 I'm sure there's a newer driver than that, for the UHD.
The RTX card driver is as old? dates missing, may wanna look into updating both minus 1 year at least, if both on board drivers are around 2022.
.NET. Visual C. Older Direct X installs. Windows Updates.

Update windows. Check if there is new software for your graphics card (go directly to nvidia) or and new drivers. Check Directx. If possible, see if disabling the integrated GPU is an option (looks like a laptop, so those are always different).
At the launcher, get the settings to as low as possible. Enter safe mode (now I don't remember how to do it, I'm not at home).
But I would bet it's some issue with the GPU and/or drivers. Some time ago my GPU got new drivers but also a new software. The drivers updated only to a point but not the software. Everything went crazy. But a quick software change (radeon app) and new drivers and all was well.

Hi All, updated all the windows drives, tried disabling the integrated GPU - that ended up making the computer run a lot worse. Made sure all the nvidia drivers were up to date, restarted pc nothing seems to be working thanks for the help anyways!

store page says a 2gb graphics card is needed and your 3050ti has 1gb.
that was before the update.
maybe roll back and see if the original game works.

try monitor=60hz and fps=60.
try 1920x1080 for both Primary Display Resolution and Desktop Resolution

some users found windows defender AV blocked the game after the update. check antivirus log in case you are one of them.

If you retained the same hard drive and same FO4 installation after your upgrade, then perhaps you need to delete all of the mods except Loader Accelerator (which has since been updated). Uninstall/reinstalling the game usually does not delete mods.

If it's an option, add a GTX 1080 to your rig. PhysX Flex (weapon debris) runs properly on it. You honestly need old hardware to run old Bethesda games correctly. Eventually you'll need an older operating system too. That isn't the case for other old games like Dragon Age Origins or Mad Max, which still run perfectly. It's a Bethesda problem, a Gamebryo engine problem. And it's our problem as Bethesda's customers.

Just a suggestion, you might want to link your checklist in every answer to a request for help to get the game running. Just looking at all the posts shows that usually when one problem is solved, another problem or seven pops up, and linking your list straight-away would save people from having to Steam-search (or start new topics for the same overall stuff). Just a thought.

well Bugthesda shockingly created some new problems with the latest patch, especially with Nvidia RTX cards, loading crashes, usually in full screen mode on certain resolutions, game running in background and freezing, not being able to switch windows between game, random crashes to desktop, or black screen hard locks have been occurring frequently for many people.
one work around is to run the game in windowed (border less) mode, this seams to fix alot of startup/loading and the resolution based issues
the only problem is the window resolution may be lower than your monitor, usually 720 by default, to make it the same size as your monitor you can change the window size in the Fallout4Pref.ini file on lines 44/45 under iSize H= and iSize W=

dont know if youve fixed it yet but try setting the graphics to low for the first launch, that fixed whatever issue i was having.

You know you can link it, too? People will give you awards just for linking a guide. :)

Open the Nvidia Control Panel and set the Nvidia GPU as the primary gaming GPU. You might even be able to select the GPU in the game's launcher. I am not sitting at a PC with the game installed currently to check, but I know it puts the GPU name into the .ini files. So there is a way to select it. Still, try to do it over the Nvidia Control Panel first.

You can also use GeForce Experience or NVIDIA App and have it optimise the game's settings for you. This may do the trick, too. And it also disables weapon debris.
