It's more complicated than that as development teams often aren't clearly defined before (planning), during (development), and after (support) for a production, but that's the gist of it.
I think they thought their Starfailed game would be such a huge success that they never needed to make much effort towards fallout, even with the advertisement of the show.
I bet they wished they'd released a fallout 5 instead now!
Bethesda just completed Starfield, they are now working on Elder Scrolls 6, unless they got some shadow team working on Fallout 5 it'll be a decade at best before we see another Fallout game.
Covid probably added some extra time in there, so I'm not sure if I'd use it as pattern.
Hmm, I'd thought that Starfield was going extra slow, but it seems I misremembered the time between release & DLC for earlier games.
Skyrim came out in early November 2011, and Dawnguard only came at the end of July 2012.
Meanwhile, Fallout 4 came out early November 2015, and Automatron was in late March 16 (it didn't add a lot of map area) with Far Harbor in mid May 16.
And it still *has* to have at least one DLC, since they pre-sold it with the deluxe edition. They can't just give up & declare Starfield a loss.
Plus, well, it definitely needs some more patching. And the modding tools to be released.
i DOUBT HIGHLY they'll ever release another single player fallout game when it's like
well at this point expecting a HL3 L4d3 TF2 actual content non bug / patch / client side fixes update or sadly another bioshock game
the devs worth a damn left a long time ago for greener pastures and it's all about nostalgia and live service games now
When have Bethesda games ever been bug free and work properly on day 1? That is not their plans.
tonnes of single player content has been added to this game too.
The development of the game has nothing to do with the series. What if the series would had been a total disaster, then it would had been the absolut worsed time to release fallout 5.
They will be through the roof no matter what.
You think they do not get any money from the TV show?
They have been busy with other games. The tv show is the perfect way to keep the Franchise in the focus without the need to develop the next main title.
So let's say we get the next fallout in 2030.
If the 2024 series would had been a disaster then they would make 1-2 seasons and kill it and people would be over it in 2030.
If the series is a hit then it will probably get several seasons, maybe 5-7.
Eh voila now the Hit tv show has ended with it's grande finale and everyone is thirsting for more Fallout. Well lucky Bethesda has a game rdy around the corner.
Oh who could had foreseen that.
you ARE joking ?
please say you are joking.
I can't tell anymore.
I believe it sold really well, and yielded a solid return on the investment Bethesda put into it.
By all important metrics, the game was a success.
Also all game developement takes a hell of a lot time these days, just look at Rockstar they're famous for this.
