bethesda has nothing to do with that mod
It means if Fallout London will potentially need weeks or months of extra work because of Bethesda hasn't warned about the timing of the update.
Its not really Bethesdas fault but well timing could be better for everyone.
Will the updates affect the mod though?
The reason is obvious: because of the forthcoming FO4 update is set to go live on the 25th.
FOLON not only requires FO4SE, but also a few other systems - created by people outside the FOLON team - that will need to be updated by their respective creators before the FOLON can apply their own updates and release the mod in a fully functional state.
They were left with a tough decision:
Either go ahead with the release on the 23rd and let people enjoy it for 48 hours before it breaks for an unknown amount of time…
Or delay the release until everything is squared away and good to go post-BSG update.
Neither is ideal - both will upset and frustrate people and there’s no telling when everything will be updated, but I think they made the right call. People tend to get more upset when they get something they’ve wanted for a long time, and then have it taken away, as opposed to being told they have to wait just a little longer.
And yes, while it’s true that they could release it on the 23rd anyways and tell people to “update proof” their game, chances are a lot of those people will either do it incorrectly or just not get to it in time to prevent the auto update.
The FO4SE team will likely get their update out the door within 24 hours - they’re pretty good about that, but let’s just hope that whoever else they’re gonna be waiting on is on top of things too.
Best case scenario: it’ll release a week or a week and half from now, worst case…maybe a few weeks or a month.
The thing that I’m more curious about is how they’re distributing it. They’re not doing it through Steam and apparently the mod is too large for Nexus. Instead, they’re distributing it through GOG.
They say that it will work fine with the GOG version of FO4, but I’m wondering what kinda hoops we’re gonna have to jump through to get it to work on a Steam-based FO4.
But yeah, they're certainly not happy about any of this jumping on them like that.
I wonder if they even tried to get a Steam page. Enderal has one and while there are different explanations as to why, one of those explanations is that the Enderal team simply asked Valve to host it and filled out some kind of application - which was approved.
I have no idea though if the Enderal team has to pay for the page, or if it’s free for them.
