An honest question about the TV show and why people hate it
Before people come in here and say "CuZ tHeY mAn BaBbIeS!" That's good, Jimmy! I'll be sure to put that on the fridge and give you a nice golden smiley face for your Good Boy Chart.

For people who aren't terminally online and can actually think more then two seconds: I have my theories. DIE stuff is certainly annoying to some, but from what I've gathered the show isn't all that terrible when it comes to it. I've seen Right-Wing Youtubers defending the show, so that at the very least says something. If they aren't bothered by it, it means it's probably not important. Most likely just there because SAG and WGA require some amount of pandering to Minorities even if it makes absolutely no logical sense.

I think it's more fear of what can happen. I don't think the people who are against the show are terrible human beings and "Literal Nazis" (I've actually seen that said.) Fallout is something these people are obviously passionate about and I don't think them strange for having that passion. I see people who care about something being called "Man/Woman Babies" all the time and there are certainly situations where it's warranted, but the overwhelming majority of the time it just seems like you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on people for liking something. I hate to say it because of how cliched it is, but that entire mentality is peak 2024. Nothing truly matters to people anymore. Tolkien had a lot of passion for his work and it showed, not that I'm comparing Fallout to Middlearth under any circumstance. Eat your heart out Emal, you are not anywhere near close to that level nor do I think you have the potential to ever be Mr.Lets-water-everything-down-cause-shareholders, But still. The greatest works of art all come from people who had a passion for their craft. They weren't made by some random Jabronis that were half-assing the whole thing and doing everything for the irony of it.

But to get back on topic, I think there is a fear that what they know will be changed to appease a completely different audience. That fear, I think, is certainly warranted. How many times have niche things been picked up, watered down and heavily warped to appeal to the masses? It happened with Star-Wars, Star-Trek, LOTR, DnD, The list goes on. Gate-Keeping in the face of Modern Corporations is a very healthy attitude, I feel it probably always was. Not that I'm advocating for turning away new people, but the object of fixation should never be shaped around that new audience. They are the outsiders, it's up to them if they like what they see.

It used to be taught in Business school that it's always, always, always more lucrative to sell to your existing customers then to try and market a new one. Why these big corporations don't seem to understand that I will never understand. Maybe when you're trading stocks on a Global Market the rules are a little different? I can't imagine that's true but I'm also no business man.

To the outsiders who are looking in at the existing fans who are... for example, upset over the "Retcon Drama" I really think you should listen to what they are saying and approach Amazon and Bugthesda themselves with some degree of skepticism. In the case of Amazon, Rings of Power already establishes they have a bad track record and Bugthesda is kind of infamous for constantly changing things.

That's not to say the old fans are completely right, but... there is enough evidence here to at least listen to them. Where it seems like, at least to my perspective, mostly just the new-comers mocking them and calling them nerds.

The "Nerd" thing specifically is what bothers me the most. You're basically looking directly into a mirror and refusing to accept what is looking back at you.

I'd also be skeptical of the Youtubers, but I think for most people that goes without saying. IF someone's content revolves around Bugthesda products or they never really give bad reviews for anything, that alone should tell you they may not be the most unbiased of sources. It's like when Jeff Gertsmen at Giant Bomb wrote a scathing review of Fallout 76, you had the shills over at IGN in a room with nothing but Fallout Merch, one of the IGN reviewers had a big ass replica Pip-Boy on his arm, in which they all proceeded to mock his credentials for not liking the game they were very obviously being paid to praise. The only way they could have be more transparent is if Todd himself was present and giving them cash for every positive word they said about the game.

Even "The Critical Drinker" likes the show and he is very selective about what he likes.

I really enjoyed the first season.

It's like religion. From the same source material people can have very different interpretations.

And just like religion those differences in interpretation can lead to conflict.
now that we have seen it I dont think there is much, if any, "hate" for it.
I was among the nay sayers based on the trailers and expected the worst.
But actually, it was quite good.

An honest question about the TV show ...

So what is the question?

LOL OP, that is one huge @ssed wall of text...not reading it...stick it in the vault!!!

I was skeptical and had put off watching it for a few days after it released.

Then I gave it a shot, and was hooked within the first few minutes!

Dare I say, it, I enjoyed Fallout even more than TLOU, and I LOVED that first season!

So what's the question?
You come here and tell the people who don't like it why they hate it. You don't even ask why they hate it. You just know.
This is called a "strawman" fallacy and those who use fallacies and go by what they "feel" are the products of Public Schools in the behavioral sink era.
I don't like it because of Sweet Baby Inc. and using games as a false propaganda delivery system. Why on earth would anyone want to be lied to? The idea of tolerating lies is the antithesis of everything this old Boomer's principles.

The reich wing would rather complain about something called woke than worry about America being run by a rapist Putin puppet. I am never sure if they are russian trolls, or just gullible. I mean, an elected person in a national government can't believe global warming is caused by space lasers.

I guess some other serious fans have a specific idea of their game in mind, and hate anything that doesn't match it.

I have dipped into Fallout 4, tactics ... i liked the show. I thought it was better than OK, it set a good mood, and now they have leverage if they need a bigger budget.

I fail to see the need to completely change a franchise, if you wish to make a James Bond, or a Star Wars, UNDERSTAND THE LORE. Or - go make something different.
To me, an old fogy, James Bond is always the traditional British orphan, but there is no reason for a different character to be introduced in the next Bond, and spun off into another series. I mean James is 007 but the lore states there are other 00's.

Star wars will forever remain a trilogy.
1-3 were dire, but Disney managed to make them look reasonable by its efforts.
They took, the IP and ruined it.
Imagine buying the most valuable media IP on the planet, and making a trilogy without actually having a plan.
I believe they did the same to Indy but can't bring myself to find out.

The good thing about Falllout, is that it isn't yet another death star but bigger.

OK its all about vaults but not the same. :)
There are many stories to be told. they don't all have to save the universe every film.
Good writing and character development.

"Everyone who says anything I don't like, is a Russian troll."
Thanks Mrs. Clinton. That's... well... that's good to know you feel that way.
Xenon The Noble Apr 18, 2024 @ 1:43pm
The thing is, we learned that Amazon has paid reviewers who troll social media to praise "The Rings of Power". They were caught. They were caught rigging the numbers and deleting negative reviews.
So, some folks with 0 level comes and tells me how it's the fan's fault if they don't like the TV series and I kinda think "Bezos is doing it again".

Many people will believe a lie if it makes them feel better. Everyone votes for a party that promises tax cuts, but countries cannot keep spending vastly more than they take in taxes.
A certain party in the US however is trying to use russian spies to indict a president, the candidates son has said his family can get all the money they want from russia, and they continually spout russian lies like bio weapons labs in Ukraine.
I am quite happy to have an argument on facts, but when you follow a liar, a cheat, and a traitor like a god, it is a bit difficult to find a fact.
I cannot find anything good to say about people who betray their own democracy, history, and even common decency.
America used to stand for democracy, decency and freedom. Even if it sometimes wasn't very good at them.
Did you actually watch Tucker carlsons interview with Putin?
That is why.

I really enjoyed the first season.
"A youtuber said he liked it."
And? That means literally nothing. I'm watching someone else review the episodes on YouTube and there are so many inconsistencies with the show itself, disregarding pre-existing lore. This show is garbage and I'm convinces these youtubers are either being paid, or just so tired of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on everything they couldn't bare to ♥♥♥♥ on something Fallout related. And that's another thing. These youtubers know good and well how much rabid hate they would get from the Bethesda Fanboy casuals who can't stand when you criticize something that they like. Especially if it's Fallout related. And 90% of these casual Bethesda fanboys who probably only played Fallout 4 and 76 already had their minds made up about the show BEFORE IT WAS EVEN RELEASED! All they needed to see is a Ghoul, some power armor and a magical floating metal fortress for them to be satisfied. It was a 10/10 for those types of "fans" from the get go. And you know what? GOOD FOR THEM! If they like it then great. But they don't get to tell people to shut up when someone rightfully criticizes a garbage show with terrible storytelling. If the show was so good then why do all of these YouTube channels have to release glowing reviews of it before it's even released. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Are you serious? THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED!!!!!!
Bethesda stopped caring about 90% of their old fanbase when they released Fallout 76. Very few of us who played the older games actually wanted a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MMO Fallout game in the first place. But they knew it would make money and released the garbage fire that was 76. And they have not released ONE SINGLE PIECE OF FALLOUT MEDIA SINCE THEN! That was in 2018! They are about 5 years too late to be making a Fallout show honestly. No one cares except for people who have heard about the games in passing. And those people probably won't even watch past the second season. The show will most likely end up being mediocre at best. And from what I've seen of the first season it is currently a garbage fire. The series is DEAD to most fans of the older games because of 76 and this show is just the NAIL IN THE COFFIN! There will never be a return to form for Bethesda because this is their new permanent form. Selling mediocre garbage to the masses. All in all if you like the show then great. But don't get mad when people point out OBVIOUS inconsistencies and plot holes in a very flawed piece of media. And quit acting like this show is some masterclass in cinema history or something. IT'S ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EMBARASSING!

Do you STILL believe the steele dossier was real? I mean even CNN has debunked it. C....N....N for crying out load had to finally admit the dossier is made up second stage hay.

Of course, it being CNN, they still couldn't help themselves in accusations of Russian collusion at the end of the article, if you have the fortitude to get to the end of it.

Who hates it? All I hear and see are good things about it.

I've extensively played EVERY Fallout game (well, not really 76 and Fallout Shelter so much..) and I think it was pretty good. I enjoyed it, the set and characters are good, the props are good, it looks and feels like Fallout.

Now this is back, funny how that ♥♥♥♥ works. Not talking to you specifically here, I just saw a notification about your comment, clicked it only to be told the page was deleted. Yet here it is now, After I made another post questioning it. I'm still subbed to this discussion, so it wasn't even me accidentally unsubbing to it somehow.

It could be a bug, granted. But... All my years using the Steam Forums I've never seen that happen or heard of it happening.
