3, it is the simplest and will help you get familiar with the mechanics, then New Vegas, then 4. If your into graphics, it is best to start with the poorer quality graphics, and the 3 and NV are almost identical in that regard.

3, NV, and 4 in their release order is approximately chronological as well, so yeah. Fallout 4 is more closely connected in STORY to 3. But it's well beyond either of the other's graphically.

Fallout 3 & 4 basically have no relation to New Vegas, and vice versa. New Vegas is lot better at adhering to the "original lore" of the first games and takes place in the same region, so that could be a good starter to get an impression of what the Fallout setting was before Bethesda copy-pasted a bunch of stuff to their East Coast knockoff 😅

i would say NV just because it does that format well.

Then fallout 4, if you enjoyed NV. Then try 3.

I don't think I'd want to do it in order that way, for the same reason I personally won't bother with the early Assassin's Creed games: the quality and modern era look and controls. It's a biiiig down grade going backwards in time. But I mean, I still go BACK to 3 and nv.

In my personal opinion, Fallout 3 is completely skippable and you won't miss out on anything

Well, the slim connection between it and 4 only mean anything in 4 if you've played it.

The DLC for 3 is all quite good though!

If you are getting into Fallout games because of the TV show, I think Fallout 4 will give the closest experience to the TV show.

4 requires the least work to set up and play, but is a very average game.
3 requires some tinkering, but feels the most fallout of the three.
NV is like 3 but very stylized and your enjoyment depends on not questioning the story.

3, nv, 4 then fallout 76 if you are bored.

3 is happier (like elderscrolls oblivion) and the best fallout in my opinion once you get out of the vault. better stories, places and characters. No iron sights though and adding them through mods isn't great.

If you plan on playing all of them like others said I would play 3 > NV > 4. I've currently been trying to get into NV again but I'm having a hard time having fun with the old controls, UI and other issues sadly.

As someone whose been with the series from the start, Fallout 3 is probably the one that seems absolutely *the least* like Fallout to me.
Felt more like somebody trying to imitate, and failing 😅

Modded 4

I would play 3, NV, and 4 in that order.
Mostly because 3 and NV uses an older level system that kinda sucked compared to the ease of Fallout 4 system.

Which makes going back to the previous games harder (at least for me anyways.)

Funny, I'd probably agree on the play order, but strongly disagree that the Fallout 4 level system is better
