3, NV, and 4 in their release order is approximately chronological as well, so yeah. Fallout 4 is more closely connected in STORY to 3. But it's well beyond either of the other's graphically.
Then fallout 4, if you enjoyed NV. Then try 3.
The DLC for 3 is all quite good though!
3 requires some tinkering, but feels the most fallout of the three.
NV is like 3 but very stylized and your enjoyment depends on not questioning the story.
3 is happier (like elderscrolls oblivion) and the best fallout in my opinion once you get out of the vault. better stories, places and characters. No iron sights though and adding them through mods isn't great.
As someone whose been with the series from the start, Fallout 3 is probably the one that seems absolutely *the least* like Fallout to me.
Felt more like somebody trying to imitate, and failing 😅
Mostly because 3 and NV uses an older level system that kinda sucked compared to the ease of Fallout 4 system.
Which makes going back to the previous games harder (at least for me anyways.)
