This difficulty is really a hit or miss to many people. I highly recommend you customised the difficulty on your own with survival mod. You can modify the dungeon reset time, damage received (default is 2x), fast travel option, hunger rates, etc. But I install it is for the quick save option.
All due respect, but I don't agree. Rather, I think survival is best played by ignoring power armor entirely aside from your visit to Virgil. For many reasons, but power armor is too expensive, too heavy, too loud and conspicuous, too expensive to keep powered up. Plus, who wants to clomp around in it, for pete's sake? :)
My character uses ultralight armor and honestly I think this is the way to go in survival, light and stealthy. Power armor isn't wrong, and is iconic and people like it. I just disagree with the notion that FO4 is designed to be played with PA or somehow you can't succeed without it. I've dropped several hundred hours in to my vanilla run and maybe wore PA for four hours outside of Far Harbor
I love it when people whine about Survival mode and their reasons they don't like is EXACTLY what Survival is.
it's like they want to pretend to be in Survival, but actually not.
The only wrong thing with Survival mode is you have no camping bag so you can sleep in most normal places and that's easily fixed by a simple sleeping bag Mod.
The only wrong thing with Survival is that the game isn't designed for it whatsoever: the AI acts without fear, people stand around gulping radiation clouds, dogs bite straight through steel power armor, the final missions of the game which were already a joke on the normal difficulties become absolutely absurd, molotovs kill you through walls, you die stepping off of cars, beds are unevenly placed as you say so you have to go around slapping mattresses down next to every workbench, single-investment perks do bizarre reality-breaking things like making you able to breathe underwater forever, I could go on for hours here.
As a "you gotta eat, sleep and drink" mode, Survival nominally succeeds but it's absolutely ridiculous in every other way, and I don't mean ridiculous in a good way.
Surviving is tedious. Getting infected regularly is tedious. Needing food and water over and over is tedious. Getting hurt easier is tedious. Your surviving. Surviving is TEDIOUS. Get into that mindset.
People make excuses when they just can't hack it.
Exactly, thanks for agreeing with me.
Yep now go play the standard mode and leave us Survival gamers alone.
I am willing to bet that a lot of players would hate my current build. At level 20 my character has 10 Strength, 4 Perception, 5 Endurance, 3 Charisma, 1 Intelligence, 9 Agility, and 1 Luck. Yes. You read that right. 1 Intelligence and 1 Luck. Fast level ups are boring for me. However, I have 3 ranks in Big Leagues. 2 ranks in Armorer, 3 ranks in Lockpick, 2 ranks in Lone Wander, 3 ranks in Sneak, 1 rank in Ninja, and 1 rank in Blitz, I was fortunate enough to find one piece of chameleon armor and I have managed to upgrade my clothing with rank 3 of ballistic weave. At level 20 I can sneak up on a Deathclaw and one-hit kill it with General Chao's Revenge. For me that is fun.
My point of this long winded post is to make of the game what you like. You have the freedom to do that.
