where automatic weapons are way more fun than I thought
Lets say in most shooters or shooter RPG's I am more fan of the semi auto weapons, or revolvers and stuff like that, in NV I didn't touch a automatic weapon for 200 hours once.

I use now one again in FO4 and they feel really good, guess I am going for the commando perk because its close to being more fun than semi weapons for me right now

Yeah, the only problem is they eat up ammo like crazy. Try to get a wounding or exploding legendary for the extra per-shot damage and max out the chamber and recoil control. With the commando perk you can do around 70 points per round and be able to focus fire without any recoil at all, and the wounding damage ignores armor and resistance (I believe). You still need to do burst fire because they like to dodge and duck a lot. You can only hit with a few rounds before they move, usually.

On normal difficulty they're fun, but on very hard the non legendaries aren't usable, they're just inferior to semi autos in every possible way and that's a shame

I love the run-and-gun commando style myself. Got a Bleeding pipe gun and the sheer volume of inexpensive .38 ammo, 48 round drum, and since bleed is broken af it killed everything.
Put points in Strength (7) for the Steady Aim perk. Improves your recoil control by a lot, and at 3rd rank you get a damage bonus for hip-fired anything. Absolutely killer for the combat shotgun.

Ive burned up so much 5.56 ammo with my automatic assault rifle.

It's a general problem with balance in this game. Enemies at high levels become extreme bullet sponges on Very Hard, and what that does is just limit your choice of weapons dramatically.

At least some of the top tier guns on Very Hard are best as automatic, like the Splattercannon / Problem Solver or things with wounding and explosive.

Of course, melee is much more powerful than all the guns if you build correctly for it (and ditch the power armor, it holds you back).
Short of legendaries, fit recoil control mods to your auto weapons. The weapon mod descriptions in the weapon crafting menu tell you which ones are good.

Yeah auto is great fun as long as you have the ammo.

In my game they are even more fun, not only is the stupid NPC hp bloat gone (thanks to SCOURGE or Better Locational Damage mods), I also removed the stupid "autoloaders deal much less damage per bullet" mechanic. Autoloaders are balanced by the scarcity of ammo, but they hurt.

Of course that's also true when enemies use them against you. :steammocking:

Yeah I was never into the automatic weapons until I got the Creation Club Combat Rifle. That is a pretty amazing CC item for the story and work put into the Commonwealth Travel Guide.

Then it dawned on me the commando skill for Automatic weapons is ALL automatic weapons whether they are pistols or rifles. So I switched my 10mm pistol to automatic and wow, it is pretty amazing.
