Steam, though, auto-updates to the latest version when a game is installed (you can do a Steam search for rolling back the Next Gen Patch). And IIRC, Quality Mode and Performance Mode are both console-only. It seems that this update was intended mostly for consoles, as it dropped my vanilla PC installation's performance from 60 FPS down to 34 FPS standing still with nothing moving around me.
If you encounter long loading times, use Load Accelerator, doesn't brake achievements.
