How Broken Are The Mods Rn?
I am debating modding NV or 4 and am wondering if NV is the move rn as a lot of the mods for 4 aren't working.
But is it really that bad rn? I would like to mod 4 a lot, but still keep it fairly vanilla based.

If you have no preference whatsoever and only want to play a Fallout game then go with New Vegas, and let the problems with Fallout 4 wait.

You can easily downgrade FO4 to the pre-"update" version if you'd like; If you don't want to bother, F4SE is still broken at the moment, so a decent amount of mods won't work on the most recent version of FO4

The Fallout 4 Script Extender version for the latest FO4 patch is currently not quite ready, but they are working on it. The Address Library is updated and the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch has been updated as well. But until the F4SE is fully updated, many mods which use it will be broken. And any mods which use .dlls will require the mod author to update them, as well.

If you want to mod F4, go back to the pre-update state (via mods, for example :) ) and go from there. I myself run F4 with about 200 mods and it works. The game has been out for years, many modders are highly professional, their mods work and many of these mods are fantastic. If you want to be on the safe side (like I) make a backup copy of your whole Fallout 4 game including mods once in a while and store it in a safe place, so you have something to come back to in case something strange happens (like an update breaking things). Apart from that, use a mod organizer, be aware of what mods might lead to conflicts and don't install ones that have 100 reported bugs. If you do that, a modded F4 can be anything for you, from an extended vanilla game to a complete overhaul. :)
I would just roll back to pre patch and play. There's nothing that Todd and Co have added or fixed that you couldn't already get with mods, no reason to play next gen unless you're stuck on console.
