10h in an struggling with ammo
oie

guys how to easily hoard ammo in early game? I'm 10h in, and even though I started with an INT build, I'm being forced to melee through the game because I can't get enough ammo to maintain a ranged pacing

thankss

Easiest way is to not use automatic weapons but single-shot ones. There is a perk in the Luck category which will let you find more ammo in storage boxes etc. And of course you can buy ammo at vendors.

Use multiple guns which use different ammo. Put some points into luck and scrounger.

there's a perk in the luck tree called Scrounger, it's only Luck 2 so you already have enough, take it, and maybe take the 2nd level... you'll have more ammo than you know what to do with... nearly every single desk, file cabinet, container, will have ammo in it. Just clearing one location. it also gives you something to do, more things to loot instead of just walking by.

No matter what build I run, I always take 2 Luck, with Scrounger level 1 at least, usually the very first skill I get. Every container outside of settlements has a good chance to have bullets in it even after you come back later as its a radiant skill, not always alot but by picking through every container in a dungeon, you'll amass a good amount of ammo. May not be for the gun you're using but for another one you can switch to.

Even just level 1 scrounger will get you a decent amount of ammo in a short amount of time.

I recommend finding a Combat Rifle, .45's are very very common, second only to .38 and 10mm, and everyone from Gunners to Raiders will be using them by about level 20 and onward until they start swapping out for 556 Assaults and 308 huntings.

Always thought it was kinda ♥♥♥♥ how conversion kits to .38 aren't available without A MAXED gun nut perk, which by the time you have that you won't even be using .38's

Also (in addition to advice from others) Sell ammo you don't want and purchase Ammo you do.
Bored Peon May 4, 2024 @ 10:00am
1. Upgrade your weapon mods, more damage is less bullets used.
2. Raise your weapon skill, more damage is less bullets.
3. Sell unused ammo and buy ammo you do use.
4. Swap caliber receivers in a weapon, becomes free if you keep the old receiver.
5. No overkill, do not use a .308 sniper rifle to kill a mob that dies to 2 10mm pistol shots.

'More ammo' mod. If you want to go full automatic all the time, you'll need to mod.

You not meant to go all in on one stat and min/max your character to a stupid height.

If you played fallout 1 or 2 you not going to be able to always rely on guns.

As long you have at least 2 in strength.

Compared to other fallout intelligence isn't a stat you need to have. It's a stat the way it should been all along a focus on a roleplay than a requirement.

5 endurance is all that matter.
Charisma is more or less 8-10 or 1

Fallout 4 changed power armor which I think made them pointless by now.
They run on pay to win powercores who are depleted in an hour which is part of the intelligence perk tree.

Fallout 4 is if we look at the game design made to be an online game.

Never do the preston quest(freedom house) as it may sound like freedom your reward is a prison of repairing a broken power armor.
Agree with most of the above. Also, use VATS and only take high probability shots. Put scopes on your rifles and do your first shot(s) in a combat outside of VATS with a scope.
Early in the game I would not recommend buying ammo or even trading one ammo type for another. The trader prices and bartering are brutal. It is way better to loot ammo (with our without Scrounger). Try to use the ammo that most of the NPCs you kill, will drop. So early on try to use a .38 weapon (modded as much as you can) wherever possible.

Maybe this is obvious or a variant of the 'overkill' advice but save the weapons with scarce/expensive ammo for when you really need them. Try to kill enemies with the cheapest and most plentiful ammo you have. Only if that goes south, then switch up.

Crank Laser Musket is your friend.

It hits really well, and you can modify it, or find up to a 6 crank one.
If you set it up as a sniper, it hits pretty hard.
It will do you good until you can build your stores up.
