Modding a game is like buying a painting and then start to paint over the painting.
Since you bought the painting I can not say anything. You not buying a game and a copy of a license. Or a copy of a copy of a painting.
But then I the creator of the painting says that I want to change my painting.
That means those "copies" of the painting is fake since they're not identical to the original painting. But I own the painting which means every time the painting is changed the copies must change as well as the copies have copyrights.
I think I just had a stroke trying to read/understand this...
That analogy - if you can even call it that - makes no sense whatsoever.
@OP
What happened?
They released an update for the game.
And anyone who uses mods and has two brain cells to rub together understands that when a game receives an update - any mods that are tied to the game version or any content that’s been changed/altered have to updated in order to continue functioning correctly or at all.
It’s not rocket science, nor is this something that’s exclusive to Bethesda games.
Is it an inconvenience?
Sure.
But it’s not the end of the world.
It’s 100% on YOU if you lack the patience to wait for your mods to be updated and you CHOSE not to protect your game and take the simple, quick steps to prevent the game from updating until you’re ready.
Oh, you’re concerned that some modders won’t return to update their mods?
Well, you can thank the population of mod users who believe that mod makers cannot and should not be held responsible or accountable for their work.
Funny how that happens, yeah? Ya’ll wanna give mod makers an indefinite free pass, not hold them to any standards, and protect them from criticism…and then you get all bent outta shape when one of them locks their mod behind closed permissions and vanishes - leaving it dead when an update arrives, refuses to fix known issues with their mod, pulls it off Nexus or wherever as some act of protest, or just takes their sweet time and makes you wait weeks or months before you can use it again.
In regards to the update itself?
Again, that’s on you if you believed this update was going to do something like bring the graphics into line with 2024 games, allow you to play it at a smooth and buttery 140 FPS, and make loading times non-existent.
Not only were things like that never promised in the communicated details, but if you think…
A. Such a thing could be achieved with a patch for a 2015 game
and
B. That any developer would essentially release a full remake/remaster of one of their most commercially successful games - for free.
You’re a dope.
Was the use of the term “next-gen” misleading?
Sure - for PC players.
FO4 was less stable and ran worse on consoles for years, and unlike their PC playing counterparts, they couldn’t utilize most fixes or mods like we can to make the game look better, run better, and be more stable.
The “next gen” term was a misnomer for PC players, but by all accounts it has markedly improved the experience for those playing on Xbox or PlayStation (which - by the way - is where a significant majority of the FO4 owning population is. There’s only 3 - 4 million copies sold on PC and something like 10+ million on the consoles).
TLDR;
Grow up. Educate yourself. And display some level of maturity as opposed to crying online.
For comparison, the latest patch of Cyberpunk 2077 forced me to run a BIOS update in order to run a vanilla version of the game without CTDs every few minutes.
I bought this March in anticipation of a next-gen update.
Unfortunately the update is not "just fine". I'm running it unmodded with a fresh install and have all kinds of issues.
I play on an ultrawide monitor, the hud is broken and gets resized or stretched when loading in and out of new areas, the lack of a 60 FPS cap breaks the physics engine in game making certain quests not work, and I constantly have issues where the loading screens are stuck for up to 60 seconds or the game freezes.
Agree with the OP. I am not looking forward to any future projects.
There was already a mod on Series X that run the game at 60fps with 4k and Ultra details. So even this statement is false.
You think this update is fine?
Modding is like shooting a cannon ball from a pirate ship into a puppies store.
I have not seen any problems with the upgrade but I don't play with mods (except load accelarator) but that is of course always a problem with new upgrades (like any game) but you can always downgrade to prior version so what is the problem.
To bad they didn't fix things which have been a problem all the time like loading but that is another thing (and load accelarator still works fine).
They did add some new content as well (not much but it is free). Thanks for the Enclave Power Armour :)
