Basically, the quest chain that starts with a distress call from Ada, a robot, in the north-eastern part of Boston, is from the Automatron DLC. The Far Harbor DLC begins by getting a new "case" from Elie (Nick Valentine's partner) and going to a whole new map by getting a boat up in the most north-eastern part of the map. Nuka World get unlocked later in the game and you need to take a train from a place southwest of sanctuary to get to a new map. Vault-tec gets you access to a new vault you can build yourself, after you listen to a radio station. The rest of the stuff are mostly items.

Nuka World - starts at the transit center on the western edge of the map at any time or from a radio message at level 30. Quest is All Aboard.

Far Harbor - starts from Nicks secretary after investigating Kelloggs house or by going to the house in the north east edge of the map at any time. Quest is Far From Home.

Vault-Tec - starts with a radio message at level 20 or by going to the quarry in the south at any time. Quest is Vault-Tec Calling.

Automatron - starts with a radio signal at level 15 or by coming across the robot at level 15 or higher. Quest is Mechanical Menace.

Contraptions Workshop and Wasteland Workshop have no quests.

Far Harbor and Nuka Cola World are different areas you have to load in to. So you'll know when you go there. The others just add junk to the base game world map.

Nuka world was the moment they took the option of being evil and locked into behind paid dlc. You will notice a very sharp contrast in the options you have available when you do nuka world content versus everything else.

you can just kill the initial quest giver at the nuka world subway station, and skip his whole intro questline, as well as getting bonus points with the raiders

can't do that anywhere else, they are all marked as essential.

easy disable the dlc you don't want in steam, but doing so will minor or major affect your save if already started

If this is your first time playing, know that all the popups for quests that you get after exiting Vault 111 aren't any of the DLC quests; they're free CC content quests included with the newest update. An FYI for you if you're new to FO4, so right off the bat you are loaded with sh*t before you even "go home."

If you're not new, refer to all the stuff posted above.

just play along you want to do - or rather CAN do. if you run into something too heavy to handle, back off and try later when you got better gear and skills

Generally, base-game quests are given by NPCs either through direct interaction or incidental dialogue (like the Diamond City guards dropping tidbits of information). With only a few exceptions, anything else that comes up by itself as a pop-up or through a radio signal is DLC or Creation Club content. There are a few base-game quests you can just stumble across, like The Lost Patrol, but the quest-giver rule of thumb is a pretty good way to tell for most quests.
