Free Fusion Cores from Settlers
So, my settlers have been "borrowing" my power armor when the settlement comes under attack. At first, I found this very annoying because they would not return it to where it was found, they would just abandon the armor in random places around Sanctuary.

However, I found that when they jump in the power armor, they put a Fusion Core in the armor, which stays there when they eject from the armor. I've been collecting quite a few fusion cores this way, especially because my 5 monster cages have been greatly increasing the number of settlement attacks.

wait ...they couldn't take the power armor if no fusion core in it...

is it a new thing after 'update'?

Fix:

1) Do not store fusion cores in any workbench or workstation. They are considered ammo, and settlers are programmed to pick up ammo when a settlement is attacked.

2) In every game, I build a power armor garage in Sanctuary to store every power armor set I find. Do not leave any armor with a fusion core in it, or the settlers will use it when the settlement is attacked.

3) You have unlimited ammo carry capacity outside of survival mode, so there's no reason not to carry it with you. And once you get a Gatling Laser from the BOS, you'll need those cores, even if you have the perk that makes cores last longer.

I don't ever see them add an extra fusion core when they get in the armor. You must be using a mod.

I'm not using any mods. The game is programmed that way. Leave a core in a suit of power armor in a settlement, and the settlers WILL enter and use it, despite having zero power armor training (remember when power required training to use?). I've seen this personally, and took steps to prevent it in all future playthroughs. The one time I saw it was when some settlers took MY suit of power armor during an attack, and nothing prepares you for that experience.

You're not reading what i wrote. I know they can take your armor if you leave a core in it. I've never seen them add an EXTRA core or put one in an empty armor, although a Follower might be able to do it if they already have a power core in their inventory. I must test that.

Settlers are programmed to pick up any spare weapon and some ammo from the workbench in the settlement when it's attacked. Until they grabbed my power armor, I never though they could grab it if I leave cores in the workbench. Remember, cores are also ammo for Gatling Lasers, and they show up as ammo in the PipBoy, IIRC, so there's no reason they couldn't recognize cores as "ammo" for power armor. Still, test away, if you can still run the game.
Ha,
I put my settlers into my spare Power armor intentionally with a mod.
So they walk around and guard wearing that gear :D

Not using any mods.

Plain vanilla.

The settlers are spawning new fusion cores.

I don't store anything at all in my workbench, so they aren't taking them from the workbench.

This is true. Take the Fusion core out when after you exit the PA and never store them anyplace except in Mannequins. NPC's can't access them.

I keep all fusion cores on my person and remove every one from armor I have stored.

Hated having to track down suits they left in the boonies

Doesn't solve the problem of settlers stealing your stuff but it does help alot

I have never seen them "spawn" fusion cores. Sounds like a Glitch if you have no mods and never have used any in your game before.

Wait a second.

Can a scavenging table net you fusion cores?

I know is says junk items, but could it be bugged?
maestro May 1, 2024 @ 12:35pm
After the update, I am 20 hours into my save and Sanctuary City got attacked. I knew from past experience to remove the FCs from the PAs, and I had three suits of PA standing around near the building with the PA station, none of them had FCs, and all of my FCs were on my person.

After the attack (which failed because I was doing a lengthy quest in Far Harbor), I came back and all three PAs were exactly where I left them. Neither of them were touched.

I also have a settler assigned to a scavenging table, though I haven't checked the WB to see if any ammo, FC or anything else, spawned. I'll do that next time I boot the game up.

Do you have Cait in that settlement?

She can use power armor frames without fusion cores(or at least used to) Could she be the one snagging armors?
