1) Didn't like the oil rig. It's a maze. it's also vertical, so local map is useless. I hate mazes. I hate vertical mazes most of all the mazes.
2) One of the quests says show up at location W on the west side of the map, and then you're told to go away for a day. Who writes stuff like that?! It's just mean to the player!
3) Somewhere along the way, the mod expects you to make choices based on what you've already done. Wut? I don't remember what I've done! I've done it all so many times I can't tell anymore what I did last week on this play through.
4) Lord forgive me, but I really don't like the southern accent of the Enclave leader. It's wrong that I don't like it, I know. Sorry southern bros, but the "Southern Military stereotype" kinda grates on me... too much "Gomer Pyle" cringe if you know what I mean.
One thing I'd change is add recognition if the player plays as Nate (male SS), the war hero. General looks up Nate, see he's NYNG, and calls him up into service. Then tell us more about Nate. What award did he get? He was to give the "War Never Changes" talk on "Congressional Medal of Honor" day. Did Nate really get the highest military award in the land?! Probably huh, if he was a big draw. If so, he serves at his own will and the Enclave would salute him. Was he an commissioned officer? then he can be called up anytime. If he was enlisted, a special law to put him back into service. I don't find the mod credible that the General doesn't know there's a war hero in the civilian side of Vault 111.
it's written tho', to be the same if you play Nora.
Re: the original question -- I don't know for sure, but I think based on my memories of playing you'd want to step away from the Enclave after retaking the Army Depot (iirc at that point I had to go do the main questline until I got the tech for the teleporter, which makes it a more natural break). I believe they'll set up check points and fly Vertibird patrols with that unlocked, so you can see BOS / Enclave clashes in the Commonwealth. If you build the teleporter somewhere else / never report back for orders, I don't see how their questline would progress.
Sorry in advance if I'm misremembering.
but like Xenon mentioned that oil rig was too much. it made me throw in the towel. I started using tcl to clip through walls to get to the quest giver but eventually I gave up. I don't remember how far I made it but the last quest I was on had me return to the oil rig, I got lost in the maze then I reloaded and old save and never looked back.
Like you suggest I'll leave a post on the nexus I thought I might get lucky, lol. Thanks again though.
If you release them from cryo but refuse to help them, the Enclave will consider you hostile once you leave the facility. From then on, regardless of your level or where you are in the main story, you can encounter Enclave patrols who will attack you on sight.
If you release them from cryo but give them the indecisive “maybe later” response, they won’t consider you an enemy and you won’t encounter hostile patrols.
If you leave them in cryo, you won’t encounter patrols nor will they consider you hostile.
I’m not sure what happens if you kill them in cryo - I’ve never chosen that because it makes 0 sense unless you’re roleplaying a psychopath or someone who somehow knows what the Enclave is.
In all cases, by the time you reach the part of the main story where you’ve built the relay and have gone to the Institute for the first time, Enclave patrols can start appearing and Enclave checkpoints will appear in various locations around the map - regardless of your standing with them (except if you’ve joined them, obviously) these patrols and checkpoints will be hostile to you.
If you manage to get to the Mass Fusion quest with any other faction besides the Enclave without officially making them your enemy yet, they will become a hostile faction once you embark on that quest.
Its possible to make them an enemy and destroy them before Mass Fusion though by pursuing the appropriate “wipe out the Enclave” quest given to you via an NPC who appears at the Castle (Minutemen), Prydwen (BoS), or Institute (Institute and Railroad).
You can save this quest for after completing the main quest if you like for all except the RR.
By destroying the Institute as the RR you will kill the quest giver and thus will automatically fail the quest.
The only way to destroy the Enclave as a member of the RR post-Institute destruction would be to join the Minutemen and advance their questline up to the point where you have retaken the Castle and have completed the Old Guns quest.
Could I ask how soon do you get that quest from the npc at the castle? That would be the best fit I think as I have modded the minutemen into something else, hehe.
I don’t know for certain, but I’d wager that you also need to at least get to the point where you’ve built the signal interceptor, visited the Institute, and thus have caused the Enclave random encounters and checkpoints to appear in the Commonwealth. Though, I can’t remember if you already have to have gotten that far to trigger Old Guns. I know you can retake the Castle before going to the Institute, but I can’t recall if Ronnie Shaw won’t appear until after you do.
This motivated me to change my mind to "DISLIKE".
The Enclave made a lot of sense in FO3.
Reminder:
wiki/John_Henry_Eden is obviously a "GoPro Cloud" of Vault Tec, which was taken over by the Enclave.
is NOT THE President of the Enclave, that was destroyed in FO2.
So it makes DEEP sense to convince "Eden" to commit suicide, when a VAULT_DWELLER with a Pip-Boy, says THIS particular "GoPro Cloud" is disconnected from Vault Tec, and so is in unauthorized use by someone else, in this case by the Enclave.
THIS very important cookie cutter element.
How does the BOS make sense in FO4:
Reminder:
The protagonist should and wants to die at the start of "Project Purity".
But the BOS intervenes.
As revenge (Compare: Ellie in TLOU2 2020) for having been cheated out of one's own destiny, the cookie cutter ending in FO3 is the destruction of the wiki/The_Citadel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBnYgnBJJJc&ab_channel=iOWNu1111
I see:
Another "GoPro Cloud" of Vault Tec, which was taken over by the "Institute".
The BOS does not want to destroy this OTHER wiki/John_Henry_Eden, but rather take it over.
so that, unlike with the Enclave, a new formation of the significantly damaged BOS is possible.
The approach and method is: "Enkeltrick" (elder absute)
This Vault-Dweller with Pip-Boy is supposed to be prevented from shutting down this OTHER "GoPro Cloud" in invalid use disconnected from Vault Tec.
This by getting the protagonist harvest with the "Enkeltrick".
So:
the BOS misjudged the FO3 protagonist too naively, and now 10 years later (or at some point) the BOS are confident that a Vault-Dweller can be used.
But:
Different Cookie Cutter protagonist.
At the end of FO4 the BOS is completely destroyed. Just like the Enclave was completely destroyed after FO2, at the end of FO3.
So:
In FO5 etc. there are OTHER factions on purpose, as Cookie Cutter, which delay Aztlan from being converted into Cahokia.

I also have played FOLON which I find brilliant but I also stopped playing that also. Things in FO4 I didn't like were stories in it which seemed so bizarre, like blowing up the institute. It was mankind's best hope so why not just take it over, strange. The bizarre animals and creatures seemed odd to me and I was always looking for a mod to take them out.
You had two headed deer and Brahim but yet you had normal Cats and some Dogs. Radiation kills it won't make new species, it will only cause mutation where in a certain stage of pregnancy then that mutation will first have to survive then mate, so many questions not really answered really, Plus many, many more.
I turned FO4 into a place where I could redevelop and fight who I wanted, I want to take out the minute men and having the Enclave joining the institute is interesting. I'm no fan of the Enclave but got this mod that lets me take over Nuka World and take an Army which uses America Rising. I want to take over Far Harbour and want to blow up the Atom lot as soon as I get there. I was close to figuring that out by locating the key and another mod but stopped playing before I accomplished it. There other things I wanted to do which went against the 'narrative' which being honest was quite poor with the minute men being a prime example.
You get made a general but have to do the menial quests when the bloke that made you a general gets to order about soldiers, lol.
IMO Bethesda have really shot themselves in the foot by not doing a FO5 which borders on incompetence especially after the TV show and it's upgrade was poor as well.
