Containers and Loot
Are lockers and desks not supposed to have much loot? I really only seem to either be getting bottle caps or nothing from a lot of lockers and desks. I am currently testing with only running Start Me Up Redux. If anyone can help that'd be great.

You might wanna take a look at the Fortune Finder and Scrounger luck perks: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fortune_Finder_(Fallout_4), https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Scrounger_(Fallout_4)

I do have the fortune finder perk, so maybe that's why only caps and rarely items show up? I'm trying to decipher if it's a bug or just the game. I am half-way through a playthrough of America Rising 2 and it seems like I was getting more loot then than I am now.

Don't worry, in America Rising 2 your needs will definitely be met from all angles...except for junk to repair your armor with, but trust that once you progress you won't have any...issues finding loot.

There's rarely anything valuable in these by default, but with both perks above they become more interesting. Them being often empty is definitely not a bug

Okay so with the fortune finder perk, I shouldn't be worried that I'm only finding caps (and rarely something else) in these? I appreciate the answers.

Also should I be finding a lot of junk too? Cause usually more often than not it's just caps.

There are multiple levels on most Luck-based perks, including finding money, ammo, etc. The higher the perk level, the more you find.

If you want caps get Fortune Finder. If you want ammo get Scrounger. If you want materials, get Scrapper then break down guns and armor. Junk is only useful for a few specific materials not covered by guns and armor, and most of the time instead of scrapping I just buy shipments from vendors.

it's easier at the early levels if you need junk for crafting breakdown, to just build an array of scavenging stations, whoever's not on farming duty can scavenge, that's 2 rando things per day to break down per station with someone assigned to it; you'll forget about it, then go back and go HOLY CRAP look at all this junk... they stop scavenging at 100 combined objects, so don't stay gone too long... 20 stations would only be 2.5 days if the workbench was junk-free when you started... it's also a cheap way to keep arrivals employed so more people show up. (4 unemployed and no more incoming settlers)

one cool thing you can do is, with the contraptions dlc, build a vacuum hopper that sucks things out of the workbench, and you can have a collection hopper behind it, to catch all the junk, and collection never stops... you can even break it down automatically... then you can go nuts, build ammo plants or armor plants or whatever tickles your plasma rifle, take all the production and dump it on your vendors til they're out of caps for the day, and rinse/repeat., a tiny self-contained one-man economy.

there's many ways to play Fallout 4, after all.

I just had to play a bit more and there started being more types of items. Thank you for the replies!
