Why do people target farm legendary weapons for hours ?
I don't get the legendary farming in a game like fallout.... I get like getting overall unique and cool weapons like in NV and Fallout 3 but they have like save spots and not random.

Fallout 4 even on highest difficulty isn't that hard, why do you farm like 5+ hour for a weapon you don't need for any content in this game ? I get it for games like Diablo or games with a endgame system where you wanna be fast and have perfect loot.

what is it with FO4 and getting those legendary items when there isn't anything you can really use them for ? or am I missing something

People think they are cool when they cheezed themselves an OP weapon to make the game boringly easy. Yes I don't know why either. It's baffling to me.

`Legendary farm?` Is this a thing?

I don't do that. I just get what I get when I get it. So can't answer your question.

Custom difficulties. I am running survival.. with the mods i'm running and my own tweaks to monsters and npc's... I can get 1 shotted by a super mutant brute. I have tripled most of their hp's. The super mutants and their hounds also regenerate... so I need to do the most amount of dmg as fast as possible. Even spray and pray with its legendary explosive rounds can become a pea shooter against some of the enemies i encounter.

As for farming? no.... what ever legendary I get...I walk away with.

It's not just for your own character, you give them to your companions to make them stronger. I typically like to give them legendary melee weapon along with nice legendary armors so they can tank for me. The base game is easy, but Far Harbor is very tough.

I did it a few times just for the experience. It gets boring very fast. It is very repetitive and distracts from the main quests and the other things one can do such as building.

Nevertheless, it is interesting to know there are tricks on how one can get a nice legendary drop in case one has not found a single good one in days of game-play. It is most useful for people who play without mods.

I target the Legendaries themselves vs what they drop. Though I do enjoy making comments on what they do drop (its rarely anything I can use).

I say things like well at least its the right shape to shove up my <We interrupt this broadcast with some breaking news - Sara Morgan (Strong) disliked that> and thats why you will never be the General; Preston.

Edit: Minor Grammatical Typo.

If you have paid attention to Steam forums, people love to complain (sort of like your post). Farming items to get OP and then being upset with the game balance because the game is way too easy is one of those ways. Also an op to humble brag.

Never heard anyone doing that here. Personally, I've also never done that. The generative legendary weapons system is super basic and underwhelming here, can't imagine doing that.
For many builds things like 'instigating' effect are super useful, but there's a console command to add it to a weapon.

Plus there are a few other factors- I don't use VATS (at all, and when I do, it's a modded system to work like a bullet time) so many legendary effects are useless, and of course, when using mod weapons without integration, .amod command is the only way to get legendaries for them anyway.

tryhards gotta try hard, even in singleplayer games.

I didn't know loot-farming was a thing in this game. I just (wrongly?) assumed that it was just upgrading as your character finds stuff like a typical scav, not griding to find stuff.

I guess if that's how people want to play their game, that's up to them. Seems strange to me, but that's just like my opinion.

Long term players, want the ultimate weapons, and armour...

Bleeding Mini Gun ... Hard to get, but lethal. Had it for 5 Seconds, before I bled to death
2 Shot Gausse Rifle ... Everything dies, even Mirelurk Queen
Bleeding Combat Shotgun ... Deadly at close range
Dead Eye Combat Shotgun ... Slow Time, fantastic weapon against Rad Scorpions

Armour...
Acrobat ... No Fall Damage with 2 items equipped
Freefall ... Only 1 in the game, best to get after Level 60, zero fall damage Leg Armour
Sentinel ... Full Set, nothing can hurt you, whilst standing still
Powered ... VAT's Stamina Energy zooms back up, with a couple of items with it on
Martyr ... Slow Time at 20% Health, is always good in Survival Mode

Legendary Farming Locations, most are single time uses.

Settlement Legendary Farm...
Make a Settlement with a Switch to turn off the Turrets, with loads of Water and Food, and you've got yourself a Legendary Farm.

When you turn Off the Turrets, It will get attacked constantly, when you are away from it exploring.

Do settlers die in survival mode? Or do they get back up after the fight is over?

"2-Shot Gauss Rifle". I got one of those on my very first playthrough in 2013 - 2014. Maxed out, with Rifleman perk maxed out, with maxed Agility stat, you could headshot anything except the rarest of Deathclaws in the Glowing Sea with one shot (as long as you didn't miss). Yeah, it burns through ammo, but you can make more 2mm ammo with the manufacturing stuff in Settlement mode. It did make the game a cakewalk, though. Haven't gotten it since, either.

the amusing part is they waste hours doing it when they could literally just open the console and apply a legendary mod directly to an item in less then a minute.
