Modders: what are your Boston performance fixes?
Yes. I can and will research the Nexus myself. And yes, I know that the engine will struggle, no matter what, in the downtown area...

But regardless, I really want to know from long time players what route you personally took to make performance in the city better for you.

Thanks in advance.

Man do I wish I knew.

I'm using Previsibines Repair Pack ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/46403 ) to fix broken geometry in the area and Shadowboost FO4 ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/63482 ) to dynamically reduce shadow quality for FPS.

It does seem like shadows are the biggest culprit of tanking boston FPS, my guess due to all the different buildings and clutter casting them, but not the only culprit.

Both those mods did give me significant performance gains, but they did not completely fix the issue. Even on a 4070 ti and i9-13900k I still have FPS dips in certain spots of boston.

mods do not currently function and will not with the current version of the game.

I'm not on the current version as I disabled updates (thanks to this forum). Do you have any performance tips?

Thank you for this.

I was hoping they'd fix Boston with this update. That's the main thing that needed fixing

without the update i use shadow boost mod, which allows you to reduce the draw distance of the shadows which improves fps, but because my machine is a bit older i still have to find other mods, i also have a mod that reduced all vanilla textures via AI and that helps a bit but it's still not enough of an effect, recently i have gone into my main ini folder and changed the uExterior Cell Buffer=44 which significantly helped my fps, but i also have that high fps mod which bypasses the 60fps limit, it's still laggy in deep Boston, but it's significantly better than vanilla FO4 before the update.

i also had to use dynavision to hid some of the ugliness of the game, because when you make so many tweaks the game sure runs better but it no longer looks any good and so you have to kind of hide it.

i also forgot i also have that smooth lag fix mod.

anyway i'm hoping the update will fix all of these things so i no longer need these bug and fix mods to get the same results, but from what i have read in the comments of people who did update, not much has changed.

this is a clip of what my game looks like with these tweaks.

I forgot about the cell fix which was crucial along with the godray fix and the objectremoval.esp

hmm, i haven't done these yet, i do like some of the godrays, but i have that set to super low anyway, not sure how the objectremoval one works, is that a INI tweak or is that a mod?
