Sound issues
I am only hearing sound from the initial "splash" animation (a SPECIAL video or the test pattern, then nothing.

I'm on Windows 11 (updated).
Using a Logitech Pro X running through an EPOS/Sennheiser GSX 1000 (DAC/preamp).
System is running an Intel Core i9-10900K with 64 GB of RAM (I'm a programmer and 3D artist, thus all the memory). Using an NVidia RTX 2080 Super. CPU and GPU are both water cooled.
Game is installed on a 2 TB NVME (WDC)
No other games are having sound issues (including Starfield and Skyrim and many other games).
Any ideas or other info that would help?

Forgot to add that this issue happened before and after the next gen patch, so it's not a patch issue. One reason I started a new play through before the patch (not easy without sound) is to be able to isolate pre and post patch issues.

If your using AMD then go into Adrenalin, select Fallout 4. Enable Radian Chill. Set min FSP to 60 and max to whatever your monitor is. Enable Enhanced Sync.

Not running AMD, but thank you.

One thing that helped, went into mixer settings and did a sound reset. I now get intermittent sound can't hear audio tapes or radio at all. Most conversations are also silent. Other than that, sound cuts in and out at random.

Mooooooooo(in Doppler effect)!

This game turns off any spatial effects because it hooks into Windows audio. If you have Dolby Atmos, enjoy turning it on EVERY time you load Fallout.

Edit: You can supposedly disable this by lowering your pc's audio output settings to anything below 44,000 Hz, but screw that. Modern game shouldn't have such a stupid problem, but... Todd said it works, so...

Check whether you have SteelSeries Sonar software. If so, do a forum search. It is the culprit behind several reports of audio issues with the game.

Ditto for Corsair/Razer audio software (not sure about with Fallout 4 specifically, but I know they cause problems in some games).

I had the same problem; Not sure if it will work for you. You need to re-download DirectX. This is the path

Program Files(x86) | Steam | steamapps | common | Steamworks Shared | _CommonRedist | DirectX | Jun2010 | DXSETUP

It looks like this https://imgur.com/gallery/JTd1wCo

Hi all, the EPOS/Sennheiser GSX 1000 uses the standard Windows USB audio driver (nothing to see here... lol).

I'm currently reinstalling the program from scratch.

I did the DirectX reinstall as well.

"oooooooooooom!" <- Doppler of a cow running backwards. :)

Post reinstall, no sound after the "Special" or "Test Pattern" screens. Absolute silence. I was really looking forward to a replay as a chaotic/good (light side). I can come back to it later I guess.

"" <- Sound of a cow in my game :)

Just *FINALLY* fixed my issue, was having the same problem, after the opening "splash" video I would have no sound. Im running a 3rd party app "Fxsound" for most of my programs, disabling it fixed the problem, I had to go into Windows system settings and disable the default "FXsound Speakers" option, once that was disabled the actual Fxsound app popped up with an error and then I could hear all the sounds in Fallout 4. Also for anyone using a g9 49 inch ultra wide monitor.. opening the console with the "~" key and typing "fov 65 90" made my game run insanely smoother and run MUCH better. What a mess.

BTW I figure most people that are having this same issue have some kind of 3rd party app thats messing up the sound in their game. Follow the same basic steps and it should fix it ( i think )

Argh! It worked perfectly once. Now I'm back to total silence.
