I'm using vortex with F4SE installed. But I'm getting an error that the versions are unsupported. Is it too late from here if the base game was already updated?
Example: When Atlus changed the requirements for Persona 4 Golden from Win7 minimum to Win8 minimum, then made my game unplayable without forcing me to use the abomination of Win8. If you launched the game, it would auto-update. There is no way to turn that off and leave the old game intact. Steam is the cause, and unless you use mods (like F4SE), there is no cure.
Another example is the Saint's Row series update requiring an Epic account to play, and there was no way to revert to the version that didn't require it. Yet more games stolen from me by Steam (and I'll be damned if I install anything from Epic).
Yep. But if you had "DO NOT UPDATE UNTIL GAME IS LAUNCHED" set in the steam FO4 settings I am not sure how your game updated.
This is so sad
Then again I'm using a mod pack called Magnus Opus, installed VIA WABBAJACK which i read has an option where like if i were to update my game now, it'd still run fine due to wabbajack and how it configured the game/modpack, but manual modding etc would prolly get screwed by this update 100% especially if they rely on scripting.
This update honestly makes no sense to me, all feels like a PR stunt.
On GOG, you can do it yourself via GOG Galaxy (limited range, though) or just not update in the first place. Your software is yours and yours only forever (as long as you have the hardware to store and run it).
