Again CAP for 48 FPS (144 HZ monitor)?
I reset my settings and mods and I see again that defulat F4, after the Todays update has 48 FPS (cap), even not 60, as default. RTX 4080 btw.

What's the point of running the game at a framerate higher than 60 if the game ties movement speed and dialogue to the FPS? I run the game at 165fps by default, but its unplayable because the dialogues change too fast, the character moves too fast, etc.

This is why we limit the FPS in the driver settings for Fallout 4, I have a 144hz monitor but I limit the framerate to 90 and it works like a charm. You don't even notice that it's not full 144hz, and everything works normally

Do you have gsync on, OP ?

Didn't read the thread but just commenting that I also have 4080 (super) and 144hz monitor and the game defaults to 72fps cap which works fine. Fresh install.

Old fanbase, they'll keep buying a turd Todd took. Look at Starfield for that turd.

Okay I have a better fix. I don't know how many PCs it will apply to, but it fixed the issue for my HP Victus laptop with an i7-13700 and RTX 4060, and I didn't have to touch the .ini files.

Step 1 (if applicable) - If you have a dedicated GPU and an integrated in use at the same time, set your PC to only use the dedicated card. I did did this within the Omen control panel under the "Switcher" section. I changed it from "Hybrid" to "Discrete". Now my PC only uses the Nvidia GPU and ignores the integrated intel display. The issue seems to stem from how Fallout 4 detects your monitor's refresh rate, and it wasn't detecting it properly with Hyrbid enabled. Potentially because the launcher was being run on the Integrated intel GPU, but the game was running on the dedicated Nvidia GPU. The concept is that games run on the more powerful dedicated card while desktop applications run on the much more energy efficient integrated GPU. For every other game out there this works great and makes my battery last a lot longer when using desktop apps. I plan to turn hybrid mode back on when I'm done with Fallout 4, but it's not really a detractor if the laptop is always plugged in.

Step 2 - From NVIDIA Control panel I set the Vsync mode to "fast". This completely uncapped the framerate. The main menu was running at ~1100 fps according to Steam's FPS counter, so first problem fixed. I then set the max frame rate to 90. This is a personal choice, but it's a sweet spot for me. 90 feels good, and hopefully it's not too high, as to not interfere with the in-game physics.

NOTE: setting the vysnc mode to to Half-Refresh rate now works properly as well and resulted in an auto cap at 72 FPS, which is actually half of of my 144hz display refresh rate. This felt pretty good too and is a good alternative if the hard cap of 90 (or whatever you set it to causes problems).

So after all that I'm back to where I started yesterday before the update. Full screen mode, super stable 90 fps.
thanks bro it just works :joker:

All you need to do is just to unlock it manually, but just be warned, the game will crash much more as higher your FPS is so unlock it and then set a limit of 60-120 by your GPU driver. https://help.bethesda.net/#en/answer/41680

(Works for: Skyrim, Skyrim SE, Fallout 4, Fallout 4 NG, Fallout 76.)

Found a workaround. The game doesn't run near as optimally this way, but I'm able to get greater than 48 FPS, which is what I'm stuck at with a 144hz monitor since we're unable to manually disable vsync after the "next gen" update.

Launcher > Options > Check Windowed & Borderless. My resolution (1920 x 1080) didn't show up as an option in the drop down with this enabled, but I was able to set it manually in the Fallout4Prefs.ini file. I set it manually and, as a test, I let Geforce Experience set it for me by choosing gear icon > Windowed > Apply. The relevant ini settings get the same result either way.

TLDR: Set these values in your Fallout4Prefs.ini file (Documents > My Games > Fallout4). Obviously, you should set the values for the resolution of YOUR display.

bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=1080
iSize W=1920

This let me get an uncapped framerate in game, but it's not near as high or as consistent as I was getting in Fullscreen mode. I had it capped at 90 fps before the update and it never dipped below that. With the borderless window settings I'm getting around 70-80 FPS with random dips. I got the smoothest performance by capping the framerate to 60 fps in Nvidia Control panel.

Again, this isn't ideal, but it's a functioning solution until Bethesda (or a modder) can fix this crap.

Also worth noting that issue wasn't present at all when plugged into an external 165hz monitor. It only seems to be an issue on my laptops built-in 144hz display.

NOTE: I tried setting the iPresentInterval value to 0 everywhere the value was present in all the ini files I found. That includes the files in Documents, the files in the steam installation directory, and the files in AppData. It's clear that the file in Documents is still being used by the application, because I'm able to set the resolution there, but it seems the game just ignores the iPresentInterval value as of the update today.

Yes !! this works perfectly !

In my case full screen is 100 FPS, borderless - 50. That sucks. in Nvidia panel v-syns is adaptive, fps capped to 100. Ini file edited, of course.

1. Navigate to \My Documents\My Games\Fallout4\.

2. Create a backup of Fallout4Prefs.ini (copy/paste locally)

3. Right-click Fallout4Prefs.ini, click Properties, and ensure that the file is not presently set to read-only. This should only happen if you've been here before, otherwise it's writable.

4. Edit the file. Ctrl+F for iPresentInterval.

5. Change iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0.

6. Save & close the file.

7. FPS can now exceed 60, go to Nvidia or AMD paneil and Limit 60 fps
That was the old trick, sadly it stopped working on my PC after this new major update 20240424

Same here, I tried to set it at 0 into all of the ini files in the the document folder and fallout 4 folder but I'm still stuck at 48fps. I am not lowering my refresh rate everytime I start the game. I know this is a first world problem but bethesda has a lot of ressources. They can surely fix that.

Not sure why you had issues and I didnt. My physics were completely normal. Lock picking worked normally. Dialog was unaffected. I did have the FPS capped to 90 in Nvidia Control panel so that may have been a factor. (RTX 4060 laptop)

yeah speed is tied to fps. 90 is still ok in terms of speed, if you get 150+ fps the game becomes unplayable and everything is moving at unnatural speed.

I try limit to 165/ 144 / 120fps, work fine on 120 above that game speed get bugged.

Just limit to 120fps and game work fine and run much better than before.

This patch is nice, game look better, run better and up to 120fps everything works fine.
